STPUD receives second award for transparency

South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) has been awarded the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence through California Special District’s Association. The certificate is good for two years and is the second consecutive time STPUD has been issued one.

This certificate requires compliance in three best practice areas including: Basic transparency including the Brown Act, Website, and Public Outreach. The application was an extensive process, consisting of 44 documents and 158 pages that were reviewed by representatives of two peer agencies, Tahoe City Public Utility District and South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce. Once reviewed by the peer agencies, it was forwarded to the Special Leadership Foundation who awarded the Certificate to South Tahoe Public Utility District.

They join other local agencies in the special district category who were given this certificate, including Truckee Tahoe Airport District, Tahoe City Public Utility District, Squaw Valley Public Service District, Placer County Water Agency, El Dorado Irrigation District

"This achievement demonstrates the District’s commitment to being open and accessible, while engaging the public and creating greater awareness of District activities," said Melonie Guttry, STPUD Executive Services Manager, in a press release.

This program was created by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in an effort to promote transparency in the operations and governance of special districts to the public and to provide special districts with an opportunity to showcase their efforts in transparency.

The Certificate of Excellence is on display at the District Offices located at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
