Forest Service to start opening Tahoe recreational facilities

The opening dates for recreational facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin have been announced, with the first ones set to e ready April 30, 2016.
Kiva Picnic area, Baldwin and Nevada beaches, Big Meadow trailhead, the McKinney Rubicon Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) area and Sawmill Pond, Eagle Falls, Chimney Beach and Secret Harbor parking areas will open April 30, 2016.
The Tallac Historic Site opens April 30, 2016, and will be staffed beginning Saturday, May 21, 2016 for Memorial Day weekend.
The Sandpit OHV area opens May 10, 2016.
William Kent, Kaspian, Meeks Bay, Bayview, Fallen Leaf and Nevada Beach campgrounds open May 13, 2016.
The Taylor Creek Visitor Center parking area, grounds and restrooms open May 14, 2016.
Luther Pass Campground opens May 25, 2016.
Pope Beach opens May 27, 2016.
Blackwood Canyon and Watson Lake campgrounds open June 1, 2016.
Until sites officially open, there is no parking, trash removal or restroom facilities available. Be sure to pack out all trash and where pets are allowed, clean up after your animal. Until parking lots open, please park your vehicle off the roadway, avoid parking on vegetation, and do not block access gates.
Before recreation sites fully open to the public, the Forest Service will hire crews and staff to manage the sites, clean up from winter, remove safety hazards and wait for the danger of a freeze to pass before turning on water systems.
