Record highs in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday, snow in weekend forecast

There was a record high temperature of 71 degrees in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday, breaking the old record of 68 set in 2001. Thursday's forecast is a high of 68, and the record was 71 set in 1992. In true spring fashion, a chance of thunderstorms in the Sierra will last from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Thursday

The heat and sunny skies then go away and there is a chance of rain and snow Saturday through Tuesday, with the daily highs below average.

The forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Thursday - Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night - Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Saturday - A slight chance of snow showers before 11am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night - A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday - A slight chance of snow showers before 11am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 51.
