Many thought the smoke and back up off traffic in front of the casino corridor Friday was the result of another underground explosions, but this time a truck and trailer were the culprit.
Tahoe Douglas Fire responded to the call of heavy smoke on Highway 50 between Harrahs Tahoe and Harvey's.
Two rigs carrying the vehicles were in the westbound lanes when one of them lost their rear trailer axle. There was a resulting brake fire that blew out a tire according to Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Eric Guevin. He said it was very smoky but a "minimalistic" fire.
There were injuries but traffic was diverted as the truck and vehicles were removed.
