SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to the continued dramatic rise of COVID-19 cases in the community, Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has moved all schools and programs to distance learning starting Thursday, November 19.

A significant number of staff members currently have COVID-19 or have been in direct contact with a confirmed positive individual.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will have a change December 15 with a changing of the guard on the Area 4
seat. Trustee Troy Matthews decided to not run for reelection so he could spend more time with his family which includes a new baby girl.

Former Climate Crew Co-president, Anthony Pedigo, introduced Resolution No. 2020/21-07 in Support of School District Climate Literacy to the LTUSD School Board on September 22, 2020. It was the culmination of a year of passionate student organizing, writing and mobilizing. The resolution passed unanimously.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be adopting their previously released Pandemic Educational Plan with some modifications as they move into Phase 2 starting October 12, 2020.

During their special meeting Monday, several parents, teachers and trustees voiced their opinions and concerns representing all sides, from keeping students in Phase 1, moving to Phase 2, as well as skipping to Phase 3.

On the agenda will be discussion about the anticipated move to the next phase of reopening, the hybrid model.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Former Recreation Superintendent Judy Crawford has passed away. She worked for the City from 1974 until 2003 and was the first woman to hold that position. Crawford was also the President of Great Ideas for Tahoe, or GIFT, during her time in the community.

Born in New Orleans, LA, in 1948, she lived around the country until she settled in South Lake Tahoe.

She started work for the City as a Recreation Supervisor and was eventually promoted to Recreation Superintendent. What she loved the most, teaching young kids how to swim.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to start the school year August 31 in the first of a four phases - Distance Learning.

The Tahoe Chamber will hold another of their Virtual Town Hall meetings on Friday, July 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This week's guest is Dr. Todd Cutler, Lake Tahoe Unified School District's superintendent.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Today, July 17, Gov. Gavin Newsom released enhanced school health guidance developed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that includes more prescriptive considerations for opening and operating schools. From the onset of this pandemic, the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE), and the 15 school districts we serve, have emphasized the need to utilize state and local health guidance available in order to prioritize student and staff health and safety.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will hear a draft proposal on what the reopening of school in the fall will look like at during a special meeting on July 14 at 5:00 p.m.

"We are in a unique time for public schools. We have been challenged to create plans for the start of the 2020/21 school year that will provide a quality education for our students and at the same time provide safety for us all. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a perfect day, at a perfect location, at a perfect celebration to wrap up what wasn't such a perfect senior year of high school.

On Friday afternoon, one by one, the South Tahoe and Mt. Tallac High School seniors stepped out of their decorated cars amidst cheering from teachers and staff. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Summer baseball leagues across the county will be different this year due to COVID-19, and the South Lake Tahoe Junior Giants program is no different.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Department has teamed up once again with the Giants Community Fund to offer a free, modified Junior Giants Baseball Program for the 2020 baseball season for youth ages 5-18.

The program features a Digital Dugout offering coaching sessions including physical activities, lessons on health and wellness, reading incentives and character development.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Calif. - Since Superintendent Terri White announced her retirement at the end of February, the Douglas County School Board has been searching for her replacement.

On Monday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m., the board will hold a special meeting to interview three candidates via ZOOM and the public is invited to watch and participate. According to their agenda, a new superintendent could be chosen and announced by the end of the meeting.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Governor Newsom said it was a possibility two weeks ago, California’s schools chief Tony Thurmond recommended the state’s public schools prepare to provide distance learning through the end of their school years on Tuesday, and now today, it became a reality in South Lake Tahoe.

El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) announced they are taking a safety-first approach and immediate action to extend the school facility closures through the end of the school year.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is on a delayed start of 10:00 a.m. this morning to allow time for snow removal operations to catch up around town.

LTCC plans on being open this coming week with staff on hand to assist students. They have moved face-to-face Winter quarter final exams to March 16-20 and have put social distancing measures into place on campus to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dr. Todd Cutler is officially the new superintendent for Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD). The Board of Trustees unanimously approved his contract and he was introduced to the standing room only crowd that gathered to meet him.

He and his wife Dee Dee were at the meeting to meet the community.

"This is a dream come true," said Dr. Cutler. "I have always wanted to come home. This is such a cool place."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a special closed session meeting of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 9:00 a.m.

The only item on the agenda is to discuss "superintendent employment." Reportedly the district is still on track to announce the board's chosen candidate at their next regular meeting on March 10 and is using this meeting to finalize a contract.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Lake Tahoe Community College Superintendent/President Jeff DeFranco has been selected for a prestigious honor from The Aspen Institute, an international non-profit organization focused on values-based leadership development in a variety of industries.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Education will hold a Special Board Meeting on Friday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m.

The open session meeting is a workshop for the trustees and will be facilitated by Cummings & Associates (CAAC), the consulting firm they approved to conduct a holistic analysis of the district’s organizational health. The group is not charging for their services and were recommended by Leadership Associates, the executive search firm being used by LTUSD for their superintendent search.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The much-anticipated pairings for the Tahoe Arts Project's 8th annual Dancing With the Tahoe Stars have been announced!

The local celebrities met their professional partners Tuesday night during a party at the Hard Rock Casino.

"Everyone is super excited about it," said Tahoe Arts Project Executive Director Peggy Blowney.
