The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® Community Involvement Committee and Young Professionals Network would like to thank community members and businesses for helping to make the first Pet Adoption Day a success.
Graciously hosted by South Lake Brewing Co, the event was held on Friday, May 24, 2019 to increase awareness about organizations working to help animals in our community including the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, Ruff RidersSaving Dogs on Death Row, Boxers & Buddies and the Animal Coalition of Tahoe.
Volunteer organizers Leila Major and Kim Williams brought representatives from these organizations to the event to educate and inform attendees about their programs, and a few animals available for adoption were there to charm attendees. Fourfostered kittens from the Reno Humane Society found homes that evening, and three families indicated an interest in a rescue dog from Thailand.
“With the dissolution of the Humane Society in South Lake Tahoe, the Truckee-Tahoe chapter is bearing the brunt of the need for both North and South shore, and with the recent removal of 300 neglected animals from a property in Shingle Springs, all nearby shelters are at capacity. All these organizations need our help. There is still a great need for donations of items such as dog food, blankets and canned pumpkin or sweet potatoes for dogs with sensitive digestive systems,” stated Jessica Crase with South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network.
Nearly $700 was raised at the event and donated to the Animal Coalition of Tahoe (ACT). ACT is a 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, care and wellbeing of companion animals in the South Tahoe area. Over
the past 14 years, they have helped over 2,000 area families spay and neuter their pets.
