Michael Nakama has been named the City of South Lake Tahoe's new director of finance, officials announced Wednesday. He replaces Christine Vuletich, who resigned in February to take a position as assistant county manager and chief financial officer in Douglas County.
Nakama's strong and diverse private sector financial management experience, coupled with a Stanford University MBA, makes him a perfect fit for the immediate and long-term financial stewardship needs of the City, according to a city press statement. He previously worked for several private sector corporations, including Southern California Edison, UNIFI Companies, and American Gulf and Airport Corporation.
His strengths in financial forecasting, budgeting, capital financing, airports, and financial information systems will be a great asset to the city as it pursues a course of living within its means and addressing the service and capital needs of the community, the statement read.
Nakama will begin the new duties as Director of Finance on Monday, June 11.
