Boys and Girls Club Teens to Build Paddle Boards

Thanks to Tahoe Maritime Museum and a generous grant from the Lana Vento Charitable Trust, there is an exciting opportunity at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe this summer. During the first weeks of summer a selected group of teen members will work together with Tahoe Maritime Museum volunteers to build Kaholo Stand Up Paddleboards from Chesapeake Light Craft.

Chesapeake Light Craft is one of the premier kit boat companies in the world allowing people to build their own wooden boats in a matter of weeks. The Kaholo SUP kits will expose students to basic boat building techniques including woodworking, fiberglass shaping, epoxying, and wood finishing techniques. Students will have the unique opportunity of learning directly from the lead designer of the Kaholo SUP kits, Larry Froley. Larry is a renowned SUP builder and racer whose insights and experience will be a great benefit to students. Following the completion of the build the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe will keep the finished boards in order to establish a permanent on water program for its members.

Tahoe Maritime Museum is happy to provide this opportunity to Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe and is excited to help get more people out on our beautiful Lake.

Tahoe Maritime Museum has been open for the past 27, their goal is to preserve and present Lake Tahoe’s maritime history. They have hands on enriching activities for both young and old visitors. They are located in Homewood, California.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is a fun and safe place for kids to enjoy during both the summer and after school. Our mission is to empower all young people to reach their full potential.
