A generation of South Lake Tahoe and Zephyr Cove students have received books for summer reading from the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club members, and this summer will be no different.
This week, club members under the direction of member Cookie Rork distributed 3,500 books to students at all local schools from Zephyr Cove to Meyers. In Grades Pre-K to 2nd, students received two books to keep, while 3rd to 8th graders got one to help with summer reading.
Teachers submit the number of students in their classes along with reading levels and members take those requests and select the books with the help of Scholastic Books. The ladies then added custom bookplate stickers.
Club members use funds raised through their annual Elegant Evening to purchase the books. For more information on Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club, visit https://sitahoesierra.org/.
