Glenn Lucky’s tricycle debuts at Nevada State Museum

On an 18-speed tricycle, one man crossed 12 states over three months to raise more than $10,000 on a mission from Nevada’s state capital to the nation’s capital in 1988.
Glenn Lucky wanted to raise awareness and funding for cerebral palsy research, a condition that has challenged him all his life, but never held him down. The vehicle he used to make his incredible journey debuts at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, just in time to celebrate the Epic Ride bicycle event through Northern Nevada.
Lucky’s 3,648-mile cross-country ride began in the ’80s but his transportation treks have continued for some time. Carson City motorists will recognize him as the advertising business owner who rides his wheels day in and day out through all the weather Nevada has to offer. Behind him, he carries ads for businesses who support him. He did the same in South Lake Tahoe when he lived at the lake.
“Along the way, he visited children’s hospitals and collected donations to help patients. His spirit and positive attitude inspire people,” said Bob Nylen, the museum’s curator of history. “We know Glenn is an important Nevadan and wanted to help tell his story. We are grateful to have his historic tricycle in our collection and hope people will come see it when they are near.”
Lucky is very much alive and still rides though friends say he did slow a bit due to a foot injury.
The Nevada State Museum, Carson City is at 600 N. Carson St. Visit nevadaculture.org for more information or call (775) 687-4810.
