CHP child passenger safety seat check-up event
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2016 - 4:47pm
Event Date:
July 16, 2016 (All day)
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) South Lake Tahoe office is conducting a car seat check-up event. The current law states child passengers must ride in either a car seat or booster seat until the age of eight years old and the only exception to the law is if the child is 4 feet 9 inches in height. Effective January 1, 2017, children under the age of 2 must ride rear-facing in an appropriate child safety seat.
Your child’s life depends on that car seat; that is why it is important to make sure it is properly installed. The CHP urges parents and guardians to reduce the risk of death and injury to their children by allowing a certified car seat technician to properly secure their child in a safety seat. Protect your children by using age appropriate passenger restraint devices (safety seats or seat belts for older children).
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents and caregivers how to install them properly in their vehicles. Drive-up visits are welcome and we encourage parents or caregivers to have their children present during the fitting and installation of the car seat or booster seat.
Funding for this CHP program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
