Lake Tahoe Unified School District reopening plans to be discussed at July 14 meeting

Event Date:
July 14, 2020 - 5:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will hear a draft proposal on what the reopening of school in the fall will look like at during a special meeting on July 14 at 5:00 p.m.

"We are in a unique time for public schools. We have been challenged to create plans for the start of the 2020/21 school year that will provide a quality education for our students and at the same time provide safety for us all. This is not an easy task," new LTUSD Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler said in his weekly email to staff, parents, and the public.

A task force has been meeting to focus on what is best for students, staff and the community. Cutler said they have been considering all of the information available along with the orders of the Governor and El Dorado Countynad national health officials.

"We must also consider the priorities of the CTA (California Teachers Association) and other important groups like the medical doctors and psychologists - all of which do not always align," added Cutler in his letter.

The minutes of the task force meetings are available on the LTUSD website, www.ltusd.org.

All options are being considered for the reopening of schools in South Lake Tahoe including a modified traditional format, a hybrid model, and a complete distance/digital learning option.

"It is important to have a plan that provides choices for parents and is also nimble enough to make changes in a hurry if the situation was to change quickly," said Cutler.

Besides the special meeting on July 14, there is a regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on July 9 but the only topic on that date is the evaluation of Dr. Cutler (he just finished his first week on the job). Public comment can be taken during both meetings but it is limited to the agenda items. Agenda information can be found on the District's website.
