New president for Western Nevada College

Dr. Vincent R. Solis is the newest leader at Western Nevada College (WNC), taking the helm as president on July 2, 2018.
Solis is new to Nevada, having come from his latest position as enior vice president of Academic and Student Services at Laredo Community College in Laredo, Texas. Prior to the beginning of the fall term, Solis will be getting to know the college, faculty, staff and community.
His higher education background includes extensive leadership in instruction and academic affairs, student services, enrollment, community outreach services, dual enrollment initiatives, auxiliary business services, special projects, construction and student success/engagement/graduation programs, 25 years in college leadership in all.
Dr. Solis’ primary focus as he begins his presidency is the students of WNC.
“Our goals are not only to ensure the success of students in our classrooms and academic programs but also to create students who are prepared to excel in their chosen academic fields and serve as leaders in their communities,” Dr. Solis said.
The college will host a meet and greet before fall semester begins in August to allow members of the community to welcome Dr. Solis to Nevada.
Dr. Solis began his post-secondary education at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore., before transferring to Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology, a Master of Science degree in Psychology and his Doctorate in Bilingual Education.
