Discarded briquettes have been determined as the cause of a fire Saturday behind a home on Kubel Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue(SLTFR) responded to the fire and were able to quickly extinguish it but not before it burned an outbuilding and some of the yard and trees.
The briquettes had been left next to the shed.
SLTFR said if you're enjoying a BBQ to properly dispose of the briquettes. Manufactured regular charcoal briquettes should be soaked in water for 20 minutes to one hour. Then wrap the soaked briquettes in a non-combustible material or container and then place into the regular trash.
