Beach wrestling has made it to South Lake Tahoe and everyone is invited to participate. Local wrestling coaches Ryan Wallace and Dave Borges are putting on a first for the area, the Inaugural Beach Wrestling Tournament will be held on the El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons on Saturday, July 25, 2015.
South Tahoe Stand Up Paddle and the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe are sponsoring the event which gets under way at high noon. Registration and weigh-ins begin at 11 a.m.
Boys and girls, men and women, young and old are invited to participate. Those 18 and under are free and there is a $5 charge for those over 18.
There are two weight classes for those 18 and under: Lightweight (under 150 lbs) and Heavyweight (above 150 lbs). There will be trophies for the top three places.
For the Open Division (over 18) the weight classes will be determined based on the number of participants. The champion will receive 50% of the fees.
Water and fruit will be provided.
Duane Wallace has challenged anyone that is twice his age and half his size. He said his 87-year-old mother Vonna has issued a personal challenge to Betty White.
Duane said it is rumored that former Nevada women's state wrestling champion
Allyssa Little will be there in hopes of adding a Beach Wrestling Crown to her expansive trophy room.
If you are a former grappler or think you are a former grappler or if you just can't remember if you grappled, show up and have more fun than you ever thought
possible. Google Beach Wrestling rules so you'll know what to expect.
