Barton adds trauma surgeon to their South Lake Tahoe team

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Sandra Taylor, MD, FACS, MS has been added to the team at Barton Health as their third general surgery surgeon. Besides her expertise in general surgery and minimally invasive surgery., Taylor also has experience in trauma life support. As a Level III Trauma Center, Barton Health is equipped to quickly provide specialized, in-depth care for patients in the critical, “golden hour” of trauma.

She attended medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver and completed her residency at UC Davis Health (formerly known as UC Davis Medical Center) in Sacramento.

Dr. Taylor is committed to helping others who are less fortunate. She has a master’s in Tropical Medicine and International Health, and has provided medical humanitarian work for people in Cameroon, Kenya, India, and Mexico.

She is no stranger to the trauma demands that occur in an area frequented by active community members and tourists. In Colorado, she provided surgery services for nearly 10 years to patients at Boulder Community Hospital, a Level II Trauma Center, and Avista Adventist Hospital, a Level III Trauma Center.

The “golden hour” of trauma refers to the first hour of care and lifesaving measures provided after a major traumatic injury. Trauma centers guarantee services for trauma care, including the immediate availability of surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, lab and x-ray technicians, respiratory therapists, and life support equipment.

Dr. Taylor, along with Kimberly Evans, MD and Gregory Eyre, MD, sees patients in South Lake Tahoe for elective and emergency surgical needs.
