SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) opens up their annual Intensive Spanish Summer Institute (ISSI) on Monday, July 31, a special guest will be there as part of the opening ceremony.

Selene Barceló, Consul for Community Affairs at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, will speak at several of the institute's activities starting at 7:45 a.m. with the opening session at the plaza outside the campus's Roberta Mason Library.

At 9:00 a.m. she moves to the Duke Theatre where she'll make a presentation in Spanish and then in English at 10:00 a.m.

In her presentations, Barceló will discuss how the Consulate works to empower the Mexican diaspora living in Northern California through health, education, and financial literacy efforts. She’ll also describe the work the Consulate does to promote a better understanding between the people of Mexico and residents of California through cultural and academic exchanges.

ISSI is an annual week-long program that provides education on Spanish language and culture. Participants earn college credits while improving their vocabulary, grammar, spelling and pronunciation, and also exploring Spanish music, dance, literature, art and architecture, history, cuisine, film, and more.

Lake Tahoe Community College is located on College Drive in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
