High pressure will set up over Northern California and Northwest Nevada over the next few days and dominate area weather. Expect hot temperatures, with some records possible on both sides of the Sierra.
In Nevada there will be isolated thunderstorms each afternoon and evening. The high will shift east late in the week with moisture increasing. Thunderstorm potential will increase at this time as well according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
In areas around Sacramento there is an excessive heat watch with widespread triple digit temperatures are expected across the valley and surrounding terrain Monday through Thursday. Peak heat expected Tuesday. This will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for those in sensitive groups.
While Lake Tahoe will be warm it won't get into triple digits. Temperatures will be well above average and possibly breaking a record on Wednesday with the forecast of 92. The record was set in 1988 when SLT had a high of 91. The average for the week is 82.
