Caltrans working on I-80 and Hwy 50 this week

Those traveling to and from Lake Tahoe this week may want to take note of traffic alerts on both Interstate 80 and Highway 50.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be doing overnight Work to repair rough spots in the roadway Monday night through Friday morning. They will be doing grinding and paving work on U.S. Highway 50 on the section of the roadway that descends after Echo Summit into the Tahoe Basin.

Work to repair the rough sections will be performed at various locations between Johnson Pass Road and Apache Avenue in Meyers. Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Up on the north end, Caltrans is alerting motorists traveling westbound on Interstate 80 between Donner Summit and Colfax that the right, #2 lane will be closed between Gold Run and Cape Horn in the “3-Mile Grade” area from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10 to perform maintenance activities.

Approximately 7 miles of the right lane will be closed to perform guardrail repair to a recently damaged section. Because there are only two lanes on this length of Interstate 80, motorists are likely to experience traffic delays and are encouraged to plan for additional travel time through the area. California Highway Patrol will be escorting traffic through the work zone to keep speeds safe for Caltrans workers on this curvy, steep stretch of freeway.

Weather or other unexpected delays could postpone the work. For the latest highway traffic news, follow Caltrans District 3 on Twitter or like them on Facebook. Use Caltrans’ QuickMap for real-time traffic information or download the QuickMap app on iTunes or Google Play.
