Fire updates for Northern California fires, Yosemite reopens Tuesday

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Sierra, including the Donnell Fire area where 23,824 acres since starting on August 1. Northwest winds and low relative humidity may increase activity along the southern and eastern areas of the fire, keeping smoke away from Lake Tahoe. Concern areas include Long Valley, Haypass, Sardine, and Red Rock Meadows. The fire may also travel in a Southeast direction towards Kennedy Meadows within the Middle Fork Stanislaus River corridor. A Forest Order Closure has been issued for the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness and Spicer Lake. It is only five percent contained.

Yosemite National Park has announced the Yosemite Valley will be reopen on Tuesday, August 14 at 9:00 a.m. They closed it on July 25 due to heavy smoke and fire suppression efforts. There will be no access to the Valley via Highway 41. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias will reopen to the public on Monday, August 13th, at 9:00 a.m. The Ferguson Fire is now 95,544 acres with 80 percent containment and 1,532 personnel that are currently engaged on the fire

Over at the massive Mendocino Complex Fire, 307,447 acres have burned, making it the largest in California history. Firefighters have a perimeter around 60 percent of the fire and almost 4,000 fire personnel are on the scene. Estimated containment date is September 1. 119 homes have been destroyed along with 110 other structures. 17 total structures have been damaged.

Up at the Carr Fire, 181,496 acres have burned and it is 51 percent contained. 1,077 residences, 22 commercial structures, 500 outbuildings destroyed with 191 residences, 26 commercial structures and 65 outbuildings were damaged. 528 homes are still threatened.
