Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop across the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Sierra this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
This activity will lift slowly north to northeast late this afternoon into the early evening. Strong gusty outflow winds up to 40 mph, with brief to heavy rainfall at times, can be expected along with dangerous lightning. Wind gusts with the thunderstorms could reach 50 to 55 mph in the lower valley areas. Thunderstorms will begin to ease as temperatures cool after 8 p.m.
Areas south of Highway 50 and west of Highway 95 may receive heavier rainfall amounts that could cause ponding of water on roadways, according to the weather service.
