Fire update for the Sierra Nevada

As of Wednesday afternoon, 4,142 acres are burning between the North Fire, Sliger Fire and Boot Fire.

The North Fire, burning since Monday at 3:00 p.m., is now at 999 acres and there is a containment line around 10 percent of the fire. It is burning nine miles northeast of Alta near Emigrant Gap. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 491 firefighting personnel are on the scene. With warm, dry weather in the forecast, Wednesday's cooler temps and higher humidity is better for firefighting efforts. Timber with litter understory, brush two-feet high and medium sized slash are burning. People are being allowed back into the Snowflower RV park only, between 10 am to 2:00 p.m. today, September 5, to collect belongings. Authorized personnel will be at the entrance to monitor.

The Sliger Fire, burning at the border of El Dorado and Placer Counties, has burned 80 acres and is now 30 percent contained. Mandatory evacuations are in affect for McKeon Pondersosa Road and all roads leading to the west from McKeon Ponderosa Road, as well as Moshiron Dr, Shady Oak Dr, Quarry Turn Rd, Pine Crest Dr, & Gas Canyon Court. Evacuation center: Regional Park, 3760 Richardson Dr., Auburn and Animal evacuation center: El Dorado County Animal Shelter at 6435 Capitol Ave., Diamond Springs.

The Boot Fire near the towns of Coleville and Walker in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has closed US 395. 3,000 acres have burned and there is no containment at this time. The fire started around midnight on September 4. Updates HERE.

The Slide Fire is now 95 percent contained and 64 acres have burned near the Mt. Rose Ski Resort east of the Washoe Valley. Two people died in the aircraft crash that caused the fire. The public will see occasional smoke from flare up of fuels burning out.

Older fires, the Donnell Fire south of Highway 4, is now measured at 36,349 acres and is 85 percent contained and the Ferguson Fire is 100 percent contained and burned 96,901 acres.
