Environmental Technology & Sustainability degree added at LTCC

Lake Tahoe Community College is taking environmental course work to a new level with its new Environmental Technology and Sustainability (ETS) program, being offered for the first time starting this fall. The new ETS program offers three areas of concentration: biological resources, physical resources, and sustainability. Students can earn an Associate of Arts degree, as well as a Certificate of Achievement.

“We’re pleased to offer this new degree and certificate program using Lake Tahoe as our field laboratory while growing a core offering for our students,” said Kathy Strain, Senior Science Specialist and Biology and Environmental Science Instructor at LTCC. “Our breathtaking landscape is an ideal lab setting to help us prepare students for jobs right here in Tahoe, where environmental careers are some of the most plentiful in the region.”

The ETS program offers the skills and knowledge needed to help students make a positive impact in today’s increasingly populated and complex world. LTCC’s faculty members are experts in their fields, and the staff helps students secure internships that propel them forward into meaningful careers. LTCC’s extensive partnerships within the Tahoe Basin include public agencies, non-profit organizations, and private businesses that augment educational programs.

“As workforce demands grow and change with shifting demographics, it’s more important than ever for public agencies to have ready access to employees with environmental skills and knowledge,” said Julie Regan, Chief of External Affairs for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. “This new environmental degree and certificate program is extremely valuable to the Basin’s future workforce.”
