SLTPD: Gunshots, chase and knife lead to arrests of two transients

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department made 53 arrests out of the 540 calls they responded to between September 4-18, 2017.

Here are two of those arrests with information provided by SLT Lt. David Stevenson:

On September 13 at 3:30 a.m., police officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard at the dead end portion of Brockway Avenue behind Izzy's Burger Spa. Upon arrival they too heard several large caliber shots in the area. They located 42-year-old Kiefer Chriss, a transient, in a truck behind the Fitness Evolution gym. He ignored orders to stop and began driving away in the truck. Officers pursued Chriss down Sierra Boulevard at relatively low speeds and he failed to yield. Chriss then attempted to make a U-Turn at the end of Sierra and hit a tree. He backed up and attempted to continue to drive away by heading north on Sierra. He stopped nose-to-nose with an officer's car. Another officer then stopped their vehicle close behind him. Chriss backed up into the patrol car several times and refused to stop or get out of the vehicle (causing minor damage to the patrol car).

Officers broke the passenger and driver’s side windows out. Officers recovered a shotgun off of the passenger seat and pulled Chriss out of the truck from the driver’s side after opening the door. He was booked on two felony and three misdemeanor charges including Assault with a deadly weapon and evading a police officer with disregard of public safety. He is no longer in the El Dorado County Jail and no court date is listed at this time.

A short time later, at 4:45 a.m., the 31-year-old South Lake Tahoe man contracted to clean up the parking lot at Raley's and KMart was approached by a 66-year-old transient, Henry Light Reinhold, as he was tending to the area behind KMart. Reinhold allegedly approached the contractor in a threatening manner with a knife in his hand. The victim then sprayed Reinhold with Mace and called the police. Reinhold had a knife in his possession when police arrived. Reinhold was arrested and booked. He is currently in the jail on $275,000 bail and charged with two felonies: Assault with a deadly weapon and Threatening a crime/Terrorize. His next court date is October 16.
