Speaker series, Faces of Homelessness, coming to South Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
October 26, 2017 - 5:30pm

Faces of Homelessness, an event hosted by the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, will take plan on Thursday, October 26 at the historic Valhalla Tahoe at 5:30 p.m.

Around the country, formerly homeless individuals are sharing their stories through a series of Faces of Homelessness panel discussions. The South Lake Tahoe version will feature speakers from Northern California, including Lake Tahoe.

“Faces of Homelessness is a nationally recognized program that literally provides a human face to the realities of homelessness. It creates the opportunity for a better understanding of a communal challenge one person at a time. The program challenges so many of the myths of homelessness with realities so our communities will develop the support networks and compassionate responses necessary to make real and lasting change,” said Rabbi Evon Yakar. He is helping organize the event with Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, and Temple Bat Yam is co-sponsoring the event with the Tahoe Chamber.

“This is an opportunity to learn more about who the homeless are and why they are homeless. Come and see the faces of homelessness; you may be surprised by who you find,” said Dr. Marissa Muscat, executive director of Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless.

Dinner prior the event is also available. Catering is provided by South Lake Tahoe’s Chimayó BBQ Tacos y Tortas. General admission to the event is free. Admission with dinner is $20.00. Those planning to attend are encouraged to preregister as space is limited. For more information and to preregister, visit
