Area service groups and organizations that share Barton Health’s commitment to improving community health and well-being are encouraged to apply online at bartonhealth.org/foundation.
Applications will be accepted through June 30, 2020.

Kiwanis to collect items for the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room

With below-freezing temperatures ever night warm clothing and boots can help the local homeless population stay warm and dry and the Warm Room stocked with supplies.
The Kiwanians will be gathering donated items on Saturday, March 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Tahoe Art League, 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
SnowGlobe and guests contribute 213 nights at Tahoe Warm Room; Make strides on waste reduction
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/27/2020 - 11:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - MTV’s SnowGlobe Music Festival has a continued commitment to give back to the South Lake Tahoe community each year, both during and after the three-day outdoor festival.
SnowGlobe 2019 was able to successfully expand their sustainability program, non-profit, and charitable giving initiatives, they said in a report released Monday.
In 2017, SnowGlobe began its partnership with The Sugar Pine Foundation, planting 200 sugar pine seedlings to help restore Lake Tahoe’s sugar pine population, which now makes up less than 5 percent of the Tahoe Forest.
The sustainable message behind SnowGlobe Music Festival
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/30/2019 - 3:06pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many know the annual winter SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe as a gathering of electronic music fans in the cold outdoors, but they may not know about the behind the scenes efforts to make the event sustainable and to ensure they leave no trace behind where it comes to products used and trash.
To help them in these efforts, Waste Free Earth is on board to create an environment of sustainability through strict guidelines for vendors and sponsors, recycling waste bins throughout the event, and daily trash pickup and sorting.
Warm Room plans to open in South Lake Tahoe on Monday
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/14/2019 - 9:02pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Warm Room is set to open for the winter on Monday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m. The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) announced today they have secured 989 Third Street for their location this season and will open pending completion of a final City inspection.
During the winter, TCH provides overnight refuge from the elements at the Warm Room. The Warm Room provides a safe and warm environment for adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness.
Training to be held for South Lake Tahoe Warm Room volunteers

Barton Foundation awards $50,000 to groups focused on community's health needs

A total of $50,000 was distributed among the groups to aid in their efforts to address the community’s most pressing health issues.
During the 2018 Barton Community Health Needs Assessment, the top health issues identified in the South Lake Tahoe community were access to care, mental health, and substance abuse.

Tahoe Homeless Coalition receives grant for year-round mental health services

In December, the Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust made more than $2M in contributions to support emotional wellness programs in nearly every mountain resort community in which Vail Resorts operates, including South Lake Tahoe.

Each year SnowGlobe and their partners Waste-Free Earth, Chris's Cleaning, Full Circle Compost and South Tahoe Refuse work together on reducing and reusing the waste created at the festival, and with the Sugarpine Foundation to plant trees for future forests.

Tahoe Warm Room finds new location - opens December 12

This year they will be located inside the old Emerald Bay Dentistry office at 1201 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.
The Warm Room will operate nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. through April 2019.
For the fourth year, the Warm Room will provide overnight refuge from the elements in a safe and warm environment for approximately twenty-five adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness during winter months.
Vail Resorts gives $1.9M to 93 Tahoe-Truckee area nonprofits

Across the company, Vail Resorts will give $11.4 million in support to more than 250 community non-profits over the upcoming year.
Each year Vail gives away money and product to groups serving the communities they have resorts located. For Kirkwood, Heavenly and Northstar, support was given to support the health and resilience of the Truckee and South Lake Tahoe communities.
South Lake Tahoe youth fundraising for dogs and cats

For the 2018 Christmas season Maiella and Milan Riva, Lily Demus and Simone Sitchon will be collecting items and money to help both Lake Tahoe Humane Society and El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
Last year the four girls collected clothing and toys for local foster youth and in 2016 they collected gloves, hats, socks, coats, and thermals for the Tahoe Warm Room.

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless will open their warm room at 1195 Rufus Allen Blvd, the City owned property that once housed Unity at the Lake. Their operations will begin at 7:00 p.m. The will be open daily from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. until April 1, 2018.

Homelessness is a housing issue in South Lake Tahoe and beyond

And it isn't a problem that is going away any time soon and will take a change in the way the problem is currently being addressed to be solved. For every 100 people who are added to the population of California there are only 32 housing units built to house them.

The Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe arrived with their moving van and efficiently packed and moved our belongings into storage. South Tahoe Association of Realtors donates Easter baskets to local youth
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 04/04/2017 - 3:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local Realtors recently donned rabbit ears and grabbed empty Easter baskets to fill with donations for 80 children in the South Lake Tahoe community.
The South Tahoe Association of Realtors (STAR) and their Community Service Committee combined their funds with donated money to shop for items to fill Easter baskets.
The committee was able to donate 80 baskets to the Family Resource Center and Live Violence Free Center in South Lake Tahoe. These organizations give the baskets to kids who otherwise would not receive anything this season.

We were proud to honor City Councilwoman Wendy David for her participation in the establishment of the Warm Room. David was facilitator of the Lake Tahoe Collaborative when a committee was established to create a vision and a plan for the Warm Room. Her support through nonprofit collaboration and in her role at the City of South Lake Tahoe has been greatly appreciated by all at TCH who have had the honor to work with her.
Fun yoga class to raise funds for the Tahoe Warm Room

Local yoga instructor Susan Glasson is donating her services for two different yoga practices on the south shore in honor of fun and whimsical Dr. Suess's birthday.
On Tuesday, February 28, all funds received during a 6:30 p.m. yoga class at Kahle Community Center will go to the Tahoe Warm Room, the seasonal homeless shelter in South Lake Tahoe.
"Celebrate the wisdom and silliness of Dr. Seuss in this Yoga class that is for all ages," said Glasson. "Bring the kids and grandma too, all you need is your willingness to have some fun!" Beginners are welcome.
Tahoe Warm Room celebrates community, success and Wendy David

David has been a driving force in the community to provide the basic, necessary temporary shelter to those in housing insecurity during the dangerously cold season.

Mt. Tallac High students learn to give back to the community
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/20/2016 - 2:25pmThe students at Mt. Tallac High School in South Lake Tahoe have learned how to give back to others in their community, and not in the normal food and money drive way.
What started last year with a rap song to raise funds for Christmas Cheer and now morphed into an annual project where more students can be involved in making a community-wide impact.
"As a school we chose people and organizations to give to," said school Principal Holly Greenough. "Since most of our students don't have the means to donate food and money we showed alternative ways they can give back."
Cold weather creates full house at Tahoe Warm Room; Donations needed
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/17/2016 - 9:37amIt was a cold one last night, and 25 South Lake Tahoe area homeless found relief from the single digit temperatures at the newly opened Warm Room, operated by the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH).
The Warm Room opened on Thursday, December 15 after days of renovations to the long vacant building located at 2179 Lake Tahoe Boulevard. There are 25 beds, hot drinks and snacks for those coming in from the cold and spending the night.
Opinion: Hot chocolate run turns into mission to help homeless in South Lake Tahoe

We were about to get an early season storm, a typical hot-to-cold pattern, and I had been looking out the window waiting on rain to become snow. My wife had gone to the grocery store, and I wanted to know what had upset the hot chocolate run. An elderly homeless couple had been rummaging through a dumpster in the parking lot. They were literally freezing, threadbare clothes wet and icing over.
Tahoe Warm Room in new building, ready to serve homeless starting December 15
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/08/2016 - 2:15pmThe cold temperatures of winter have settled in, and with them comes the announcement that the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) is opening their Tahoe Warm Room on December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
TCH has secured a new space at 2179 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe for the winter. There were needed renovations on the building, which has been sitting vacant for many years, pushing the opening date to mid-December.
Volunteer training being held for this year's Tahoe Warm Room staff
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/19/2016 - 6:39pmThe Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless will soon be opening their Warm Room for a second winter and they are seeking volunteers to help staff it. Last winter they provided 1,820 room nights to 107 different guests over the 102 nights they were open.
A volunteer training will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Unity at the Lake located at 1195 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe. To volunteer, training is mandatory as well as a background check.
The location of this year's Warm Room has not been announced though organizers say a contract is ready to be signed.
South Lake Tahoe girls ask for community's help to keep others warm

Maiella Riva, her sister Milan, and friend Lily Demus are collection warm gloves, socks and thermals for the Tahoe Warm Room, others in need in South Lake Tahoe and in Reno. The Riva girls got the idea from family friends who do comething similar in Reno so they want to donate a small percentage back to that project for inspiring them.
Their goal is get 50 items by December 16.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) would like to thank Caesar’s Foundation and Harrah’s & Harvey’s Lake Tahoe for their support. In September the Caesar’s Foundation awarded TCH with a $10,000 grant to operate the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room. These funds will help provide overnight refuge from the elements to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the winter months. Additionally, the Harrah’s Employees Reaching Out (HEROs) were very helpful in our pilot season by providing volunteers and donating supplies.

Tahoe Women’s Community Fund (TWCF) has announced their inaugural Grants Gala on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe.
ALL community members are invited and encouraged to attend to learn more about what the 170 members of TWCF are contributing to the community. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased

Kudos: Tahoe Warm Room thanks cleanup volunteers

The Warm Room was open from December 18 through April 1 and provided the first overnight homeless services in the Tahoe Region.
