Curlers from around the globe are headed to town for the inaugural Lake Tahoe Thin-Air International Bonspiel October 2-4, 2015 at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.
24 teams, including some Olympians, will be on the ice all weekend long for the curling competition which is being hosted by Lake Tahoe Epic Curling (LTEC) and Wine Country Curling. The public is invited to watch the three days of action: On Friday, teams will be on the ice from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ten teams can be playing at any one time so lots of opportunity to watch.
Admission is free!
"Curling fascinates many people, and we’d love to have our residents watch it live," said local curler Greg Felton. "Then they can come out sometime after the bonspiel to try it for themselves!"
The sport of curling continues to grow in popularity around the world. After the 2010 Olympics, curling clubs grew exponentially, and that trend continued after the 2014 Olympics. LTEC was founded by brothers Ray and Larry Sidney, and the club's President Cherise Smith in 2013.
The Ice Arena is located at 1176 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
