Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/24/2020 - 7:06pmI continue to remark in several recent Road Beats, that Honda is on a roll, after testing this new Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, I have to report that the roll is still accelerating and rather quickly, including its price. Here is a car with loads of utility, outstanding performance, great fuel economy, superb handling and good comfort for a sticker price not $22,380 with the boat ride from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, but $29,780. That’s right a price bump of about 30 percent for the Touring model.

Road Beat: 2020 Toyota GR Supra
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/25/2020 - 11:50pm“It’s just a BMW, isn’t it?” Every Supra owner will indubitably be asked this annoying question at some point, likely many, many times. And that’s a real shame because, regardless of the backstory of how the new Supra came to be, it’s a wonderful sports car for the road.

Road Beat: 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Limited - Still best basic hybrid you can buy
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/16/2020 - 9:29amIt has been about a year and a half since I last tested a Hyundai Ioniq hybrid, a base model stickering for just $23,210. This time around, my tester was a near top of the line limited. Essentially, they are the same vehicle except for content. But that doesn’t mean that this base unit is a stripper? It isn’t as it comes standard with power windows, mirrors, backup camera, and most everything else one could want.

Road Beat: 2020 Toyota Avalon Hybrid still the best of the best
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/29/2020 - 10:31amAfter testing nearly every hybrid on the market including products from Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Ford. Toyota’s 2020 Avalon hybrid is the best yet (actually it is tied with the Camry Hybrid and Lexus ES300h which essentially share chassis and hybrid system). Usually, the predominant factor in buying a hybrid is fuel economy and while the Avalon is rated at 43/43/43 mpg which is not the highest rating among hybrids, it can clearly outperform those numbers while doing so many other things extremely well.

Road Beat: 2020 Honda Clarity plug-in hybrid, Still an almost perfect EV
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/28/2019 - 8:03pmClarity was originally a name reserved for Honda’s venture into fuel cells which still exists in the Clarity Fuel Cell. But at a price approaching $60,000, its sales are very small at about 625 units for 2018. While that is a percentage increase of about 35 percent, the actual number of increased unit sales was under 200 year over year. See how percentage increase figures can be misleading? However, the new Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is having robust sales in comparison (over 18,0000 units sold) and for many a good reason.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/16/2019 - 7:08pmHersh Herschman was never a certified tennis professional, but many of those who he instructed would say otherwise.
Born Marlin Joseph Herschman on Jan. 12, 1943, in St. Ignatius, Montana, he would always be best known as Hersh or The Hersh Man. He died Aug. 7, 2019, at The Chateau at Gardnerville in Nevada of inoperable brain cancer. His wife, Sheryl, and best friend for more than 40 years Greg Painter were with him. He was 76.

Over 40 local youth benefited from this generosity by getting to play at the “next” level (one step away from the World Series)! Road Beat: Mitsubishi Outlander GT, A high value alternative
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/14/2019 - 10:51pmWhen tested exactly three years ago, I called the Mitsubishi Outlander a high value, bang for the buck CUV. Now with compact, small-midsize CUVs all costing in the mid $30K range and more, the Mitsubishi stands out even more as my extremely loaded three rows of seats Outlander GT stickered for $36K all in including the boat from Japan. While the price is up a minuscule three percent, additional content and improvements have increased the value quotient. And that quotient grows as inflation would have boosted the price by at least six percent.

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 05/17/2019 - 12:56pmIn 2007, just as the Angora fire was breaking, Amy Jackson hurriedly attempted to pack her belongings, not knowing what the outcome would be. As she did so, she remembered that she had promised a young 8th-grade boy that if he met her with his birth certificate verifying his age, that she would help cover his fee for AYSO soccer that year. She thought of what to do? I better go, she decided. As she approached their neighborhood in Bijou, she encountered not only the one boy she had promised to meet, but many other boys as well. She was in shock.
Road Beat: 2019 Honda Passport, Honda’s best ever SUV/CUV and Best in Class
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/28/2019 - 8:52pmNot very often does a new car/truck come along that gets my attention as the new Honda Passport did. It is certainly not a rebadged Isuzu as the original “rush to market” first Passport was.
Road Beat: Genesis G70 - One of the best cars ever
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/07/2019 - 9:25pmSure, I like most of the vehicles I test, but there are some that stand out. Then from those stand out motor vehicles, we can find the best of the best. When you factor in price or bang for the buck, that best of the best gets very small, maybe two or three vehicles. The new Genesis G70 is one of them. The other vehicle is the Kia Stinger which is a slightly larger sibling of the G70. I will discuss the differences, but for this Road Beat it is the G70 that gets this ultimate spotlight and my tester was an AWD G70 Sport 3.3T.
