Storm bringing up to 18" of snow at upper elevations of Lake Tahoe

The next storm heading to South Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada is bringing with it much cooler temperatures and snow. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday for areas above 6,500 feet.

Snow accumulations should be 6" to 18" above 7,000 feet with up to 6" down to 6,500 feet. Up to 2" at lake level are possible.

The snow levels wills tart around the 7,000 ft level, lowersing to 6,000 feet by late Sunday morning.

Tahoe kids are used to snow or rain on Halloween, and this year will be no different. There is a 20 percent chance of light snow or rain on Monday evening.

Today - Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight - A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 38. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Sunday - Rain and snow. High near 48. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday Night - Rain and snow showers likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Monday Night - A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday - A chance of rain and snow showers, mainly before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
