Sierra-at-Tahoe resort donates coats to Hurricane Sandy victims

Nationally recognized as one of the best terrain parks in North America by TransWorld SNOWboarding, the Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort Terrain Park staff went beyond building jumps to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Partnering with New York Cares, the largest volunteer organization in New York City, Sierra Resort™ collected new and slightly used jackets to send to people who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

As New York Cares works around the clock to restore areas hit hardest by the storm such as, Rockaway in Queens and Long Beach just outside of New York City. Sierra Resort believes the basic need to keep warm should not be a concern. Recognizing this need the Sierra Resort Terrain Park staff collected over a dozen jackets and base layers, along with winter hats to send to those in need.

Well-known for giving back to the Lake Tahoe community, the Sierra Resort Terrain Park staff saw the opportunity to expand our philanthropic efforts to the thousands of New Yorkers who have been displaced and left out in the cold as a result of Hurricane Sandy; creating an immediate and unprecedented demand for warm coats.

Sierra Resort Terrain Parks Supervisor, Doug Mercer said, “We know how important it is to be warm and dry, and after we heard about the demand for coats we wanted to help those in need. We also have a large group of workers from the East Coast, so it hit close to home. The entire Terrain Park staff is glad to help.”

Sierra Resort is happy to lend a hand to New York Cares and support them in their efforts to collect coats and keep New Yorkers warm.
