Reno Police arrested a basketball coach Thursday for allegedly firing a weapon at a juvenile near Fred W. Traner Middle School, hitting a house in the process.
Lt. Scott Shaw said police responded to a call of destruction of property and gunfire around 6:30 p.m.
Omarri Calvin Jeron Williams, 25, was coaching basketball at the school on Carville Drive in central Reno. His car was parked out front when somebody informed him his windows were being broken.
Williams went outside to find a 17-year-old juvenile in the parking lot. Police say he grabbed a gun from his car and fired, striking a residence in the 1200 block of Barstow Street.
Shaw said nobody inside the residence was hurt, “purely by luck,” as the bullet penetrated two walls.
“After taking a look at the surveillance video that was available, it was found the 17-year-old had nothing to do with the breaking of the windows,” Shaw said.
