At the lake: Douglas County Schools closed, Lake Tahoe Unified opened

The first wave of the storm coming to Lake Tahoe had warm temperatures, rain and wind, but because of what is forecast later in the day Thursday, Douglas County schools at the lake are closed.
Lake Tahoe Unified Schools, which cover the south end of the lake, are open. There is a chance that after-school programs will be closed but that decision will be made later in the day.
In Truckee: All Schools Open Today, December 10, 2015 Except Donner Trail Elementary/Donner Summit Students due to the high confidence that the storm will bring heavy snow later in the day.
Tahoe-Truckee schools (North Lake Tahoe) are open.
The forecast for Thursday:
Rain before 8am, then rain and snow between 8am and 2pm, then snow after 2pm. Temperature falling to around 31 by 5pm. Windy, with a west wind 30 to 35 mph decreasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Tonight, Snow. Low around 27. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
