Special meeting to honor outgoing Councilwoman JoAnn Conner not unusual

The were some questions surrounding Monday's special meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council, a meeting that will both certify the November 8 election results and honor outgoing City Councilmember JoAnn Conner with a plaque of appreciation.
In 2014, a special meeting was held to honor outgoing council members Angela Swanson and Brooke Laine, both who lost in their bids for reelection. Conner lost her reelection bid this year.
"Four years ago, the council at that time discussed how uncomfortable it was for council members who lost the election to be required to attend a meeting to certify the results and then step down and have other council join," explained SLT City Manager Nancy Kerry.
The community is invited to attend both City Council meetings this week. On Monday, December 12 at 9:00 a.m., the Council will convene to officially accept the election results and to present the plaque to Conner. On Tuesday, December 13 at 9:00 a.m., the new members to the Council, Jason Collin and Brooke Laine will be sworn in and the meeting will begin with the five Council members.
