Snow brings a mess to roads around South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The latest storm hit quickly Sunday morning, bringing snow to South Lake Tahoe area roads and, with those, chain controls, traffic issues and collisions.
Drivers heading west over Echo Summit have been attempting short cuts through Lake Tahoe Blvd., Mandan Street, Sawmill Road and North Upper Truckee, and because of that they are creating a mess with double parking as they put on chains and blocking the roadway.
Even at 11:00 a.m. North Upper Truckee (NUT) was a mess, especially at the intersection with Lake Tahoe Blvd. CHP had to intervene for safety reasons. Their incident report is full of chain installation issues in neighborhoods, especially NUT and Mt. Rainier Rd. area. A big rig trying to go around Meyers is currently stuck on Zuni and NUT and only local traffic is being allowed.
There are also multiple crashes and a tree came down on Sierra Blvd.
If you don't have to go out, stay inside until snow removal operations are completed and traffic is off the road.
