Armed Robbery at South Lake Tahoe's KFC

South Lake Tahoe Police officers responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant on Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe Monday night.

At about 11:30 p.m., officers arrived in response to the armed robbery which had just occurred. When they arrived the suspect, described as 5'8" and 130 pounds, had already fled.

KFC had been closed for business, but several employees were still inside working at the time of the robbery. The suspect entered through the unlocked back door of the business and displayed a handgun, began yelling orders at the employees and threatening to shoot them if they did not immediately comply. The suspect ordered one of the employees to surrender the money to him. After collecting an undisclosed amount of money the suspect immediately left through the same door through which he had entered, to the rear of the business.

The suspect’s method of escape is not known from this point. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The suspect took care to conceal his identity, fully covering his face and hands, which made it impossible for the employees to identify his race. Video is not yet available from the restaurant or from the general shopping center where it is located at the southeast corner of Lake Tahoe and Ski Run Boulevards.

Detectives will be reaching out to other area law enforcement agencies to identify any similar cases which may assist in this investigation.
