Strong cold front headed to Lake Tahoe

A strong cold front will be pushing through the Sierra, Lake Tahoe area and northwest Nevada Monday night into Tuesday according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

There is a slight chance that snow showers could develop along the front, but confidence is low as this is not the type of system to bring significant snow.

Gusty northeast winds will develop behind the front Tuesday into Wednesday bringing strong winds across Sierra ridges with winds gusting over 80 mph. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible on Lake Tahoe bringing choppy lake conditions. These winds will make the already cold temperatures feel even colder with wind chills in the teens during the day and single digit to below zero at night Tuesday into New Year’s Eve.

The graphic shows potential wind chill values New Year’s Eve at midnight based on the current forecast.
