No new COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County or Douglas County

Fifty more people were tested, bringing the total tests performed to 1,350.

USFS closes South Shore Recreation areas: Up to $10,000 fine for violation of order

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All national forest recreation areas and sites in the South Shore Recreation Corridors are now closed. In an announcement Wednesday, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) said the closures are to keep in alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure health and safety of its employees, visitors and volunteers.

There have also been 25 recoveries. Officials report 1,300 tests administered to date and most of those coming back as negative.

Poor response rate and COVID-19 concerns prompt extension of Census deadlines

Over 70 million households have responded to date, representing over 48 percent of all households in America.
The California response rate is a bit higher at 49.2 percent and 48.3 perfect of Nevadans have replied.
South Lake Tahoe is lower than most, with 20.9 percent of the population replying so far.

They were there to get the free packages of hamburger Overland Meat & Seafood Co. was giving to the community during the financially stressful times brought by the coronavirus
In business since 1987, Overland said this was their best, and largest, event in the 33 years they've been open.
Lake Tahoe area COVID-19 updates: Two new cases in El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/13/2020 - 3:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been two new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County since Friday, one in each the South Lake Tahoe area and El Dorado Hills. These new figures bring a total of 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, ten of those on the East Slope (including South Lake Tahoe and Meyers).
On April 3, the South Lake Tahoe region had nine confirmed cases with one being adding and dropped due to error over a week ago.
El Dorado County reports 23 recoveries to date and 1,250 tests taken.

But now we have the new XC40 which was rewarded recently with the European Car of the Year for 2018. So, it was with much anticipation that I awaited the arrival of the new XC40.

Navigating through what is essential and what is nonessential has been a struggle for many.
The El Dorado County Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams created a statement Friday to reiterate business, activity and travel restrictions. She also said that she and county leaders may have to impose stricter limitations than imposed by the state should some current practices continue.

Many were already living paycheck to paycheck, and now their paychecks have disappeared. It could be months before many citizens here earn money again. Even when businesses re-open, the tourism industry here will likely be deeply depressed long afterward.

El Dorado County COVID-19: Two new cases in El Dorado Hills; 16 recoveries
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/10/2020 - 3:44pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Department of Health and Human Services is reporting two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the area, both in El Dorado Hills. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 32.
The County is also reporting confirmed cases now on their daily report. There have been 16 residents who have recovered from COVID-19, to date.
According to the report, 1,125 tests have been made on residents, with 1,093 of them negative or still outstanding.
South Lake Tahoe has 9 confirmed cases of the virus.
National map shows local areas perform well in social distancing efforts

Overall, residents are abiding by the states' "stay at home" ordering and leaving home to work at essential jobs and for essential needs such as food.

Woman arrested after allegedly licking items at South Lake Tahoe grocery store
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/08/2020 - 10:01amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested on Tuesday, April 7 after store employees allegedly found her licking items, and licking her fingers before putting things into her shopping cart.
The mid-town Safeway at the corner of Johnson and Lake Tahoe Boulevards called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) after an employee said they spotted 53-year-old Jennifer Walker putting pieces of jewelry from the store on her hands and licking them.
According to SLTPD, Walker began to load her cart with merchandise from the store after licking her hands.
Special South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting Wednesday

There will be no formal action on the first item. They will be discussing their newly appointed Transformational Change Committee which is comprised of Councilmembers Cody Bass and Devin Middlebrook.

Winter Storm Warning until Monday for Lake Tahoe

At 10:00 a.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said to expect heavy snow with additional snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches, except 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph in the lower elevations and up to 90 mph over Sierra ridges.

There are 7 confirmed cases in the South Lake Tahoe region, 3 in Placerville, 4 in El Dorado Hills with the County's other 5 cases spread around the west slope.
797 people have been tested with 648 of those coming back negative for the virus. 130 are still pending.

Lake Valley Fire Protection District helping locals with food and donations

They have donated money as well as started a program to go grocery shopping for the elderly in their district or for those unable to get to the store due to coronavirus impacts.
Last week members of the district's foundation presented a check for $1,000 to Bread & Broth to help supply food to those in the community who are impacted by layoffs due to the coronavirus.

Sierra snowpack at 66% of April 1 average; Statewide it is 53% of average
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/01/2020 - 2:18pmSACRAMENTO, Calif. – The precipitation of March did not do enough to boost the snowpack in the Sierra to high figures, but it did give surveyors better figures than the 47 percent of average one month ago. The manual measurement of the snowpack at Phillips Station near Sierra-at-Tahoe showed the snow depth was 43.5 inches with a snow water equivalent (SWE) of 16.5 inches. This is 66 percent of the April 1 average at that location southwest of Lake Tahoe.

County officials said the virus has been identified on the West Slope and in South Lake Tahoe, but the number of each case in each area is not known.
Carson City Health and Human Services on Tuesday morning reported one new positive case of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to 12.

The nonprofit's licensed clinical social workers will be joined by their licensed and certified drug and alcohol counselors to answer questions and provide tools and tips to help maintain mental health during these difficult and challenging times.

The individual is recovering at home and was never hospitalized.
Alpine County is located south of Lake Tahoe, has a population of 1,120 and is 743 square miles in size and includes Markleeville and Bear Valley.

Today, they announced a donation of more than $2.5 million to provide immediate support to those areas as all contend with the severe impacts of COVID-19.
Immediate emergency relief grants will total $1.5 million and will be distributed to communities including South Lake Tahoe.

Road Beat: Toyota Tundra - Not just getting it right, but getting it fun
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/29/2020 - 9:22amIt’s been over two years since my last visit with this second and a half-generation Tundra (the second generation was introduced in 2008 and heavily refreshed in 2014). My last review remarked how Toyota finally made the Tundra into a real “Cowboy Cadillac” (it’s built near San Antonio, Texas) with a ride smoother than a baby’s butt. This new Tundra feels even a bit smoother, perhaps a little less jiggly over Caltrans challenged pavement. And my tester was the new TRD Pro edition.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue reopens midtown station
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/27/2020 - 3:08pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) once again has three fire stations operating in the city limits. Their Station #2 on Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the Al Tahoe neighborhood reopened at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
In 2015 the City had let Cal Tahoe JPA move the ambulance service into the station when SLTFR restructured and moved all ambulance duties over to the JPA. In return they gave up their fire station for five years.
City of South Lake Tahoe now has power to fine those violating "Stay at Home" order
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/27/2020 - 11:59amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe issued an emergency order Friday morning, one that gives them the power to issue administrative citations to those who violate California Governor Newsom's 'stay at home' order.
“We are taking this crisis seriously and it is important that those who don’t, know there can be consequences to ignoring the Governor’s orders,” said Interim City Manager Brad Kilger, “This is about keeping our community safe, and that’s what this city is going to do.”
Part of Kilger's role for the city is as its director of emergency services.
Nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/27/2020 - 6:20amEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Public Health Department has announced there are now nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26. The County is not identifying the communities where these cases are.
This brings the total number of positive cases in the State of California to 4,040. There have been 82 deaths in the state.

Barton Foundation spearheading homemade face mask project in South Lake Tahoe

To help with an anticipated need at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, the Barton Foundation has created a homemade face mask sewing project after members of the community reached out to see how they could help.
Staff researched the best safety options and there are three masks volunteers can use, one with a filter and two simpler versions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Chamber is holding its second Virtual Town Hall meeting in as many weeks on the local response to the COVID-19 crisis response.
Last week, Chamber CEO Steve Teshara hosted South Lake Tahoe Mayor Jason Collin. On Friday, March 27, he will host El Dorado County District 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel, and the County's Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams. The event is on the Zoom platform from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This amounts to a 3.05 percent increase compared to February 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,011,785,879 according to the monthly report released today by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
