Country superstar Tim McGraw will head to the South Shore on Friday, June 14, 2019 for an 8:00 p.m. concert.
McGraw has 43 number one radio singles, 16 number one albums and countless industry awards and accolades. His last solo project spawned one of the biggest hit singles of all-time, “Humble and Kind,” whose message continues to impact fans around the world.

The Board of County Commissioners’ meeting scheduled for today, February 21, 2019, at 1:30 pm located at the Tahoe Transportation Center has been canceled as has the water utility rate workshop scheduled at 11:00 am located at the Kahle Community Center.
No new date has been set at this time.

19th annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - John Albert Thompson, a Norwegian immigrant nicknamed Snowshoe Thompson, was the legendary 'Mailman of the Sierras' and a man many consider to be the father of California skiing.
His life will be celebrated in South Lake Tahoe on March 2, 2019, during the 19th annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost for the day is a $10 donation for adults and kids under 12 are free.
Northstar GM headed to Colorado in Vail Resorts leadership change

With Doug Lovell's retirement at Vail Mountain, Beaver Creek’s Beth Howard has been tagged as hi placement. Nadia Guerriero, current vice president and general manager at Northstar California Resort, will move to Colorado to succeed Howard at Beaver Creek and the Company will immediately begin a search for her replacement at Northstar.
These changes will also occur on May 1, 2019.

For just $12, you will enjoy a buffet of some of Blue Dog's most popular pizzas, plus a free raffle ticket. (Kids under 12 are just $5.00.) Additional raffle tickets are just $1.00.
The rest of Blue Dog's menu and their large selection of beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Fremont man dies after being struck by car at Bridal Veil Falls
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/19/2019 - 1:17pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 40-year-old man from Fremont, California died Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car near Bridal Veil Falls on Highway 50 west of Lake Tahoe.
Ramesh Pulavarthi was standing on the driver's side of his vehicle in the #2 eastbound lane of U50 just east of the falls at 1:50 p.m. A 2010 Jeep driven by 59-year-old Sacramento man was heading east approaching the falls when he came upon Pulavarthi's vehicle that was parked in the travel lane. He swerved to the left but struck Mr. Pulavarthi who was thrown several feet and sustained fatal injuries.

Snow and traffic continue to cause problems on Lake Tahoe roads
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/17/2019 - 2:07pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- For the third straight weekend snow has been measured in feet instead of inches around Lake Tahoe, causing issues for both residents and travelers in the Sierra.
When open, there has been a constant flow of both westbound and eastbound vehicles over I80 and US50. Reports of 10-15 hour trips from the Bay Area have been common.

After a week of heavy snow, the National Weather Service has extended the Winter Snow Warning for Lake Tahoe until 7:00 p.m. Sunday night. There is also a Winter Weather Advisory for Sierra Front valleys including Reno/Sparks, Carson City, and Carson Valley through this evening.

I gave it very high marks is most categories especially bang for the buck when I tested it about five months ago. With only a 2.4L, 166 hp inline four-banger, it performed admirably. So, what would happen when Mitsu adds a PHEV battery (12 kwh) to the mix? The answer from my numbers is not exceptional.

Please note that the library was already scheduled to be closed Saturday through Monday for the Presidents' Day Weekend.
Marcia Sarosik Dance as canceled classes for Friday.
All three El Dorado Savings branches in South Lake Tahoe will close at 5:00 p.m. Friday due to snow. The Al Tahoe Branch is scheduled to be open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

After a day that saw mostly rain at lake level, the National Weather Service updated the warning, extending the length of the warning that originally issued and lowering snow levels through the three-day period.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/13/2019 - 7:38amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A powerful “atmospheric river” storm is starting to make its presence known with heavy rain, high winds and snow throughout much of California and into the Sierra.
Initial forecasts had just rain at lake level Wednesday, but it is snowing as of 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday and Thursday: Heavy high elevation snow and damaging winds are expected. Rainfall amounts are expected to be between one and two inches in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday. Expect chain controls on mountain passes. Winter Storm Warning in place until 10:00 p.m. Thursday.
Over 1100 customers of NVEnergy without power
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/12/2019 - 7:40pmUPDATE 9:20 p.m. - Most NV Energy customers in the Lake Tahoe area now have their power restored and the outage is isolated to just three customers.

UPDATE 8:20 p.m.- Power has been restored to most of the affected customers. There are a couple of people without power in the Zephyr Cove area and 172 customers are still without power in the Glenbrook area. NV Energy still estimates all will be restored by 9:15 p.m.

Power to 1,133 customers of NV Energy is currently out power this evening due to damage to their equipment near Glenbrook, Nev.

Survey finds 18 Million trees died in California in 2018
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/11/2019 - 1:15pmWhile the rate at which trees died in California has slowed, an additional 18 million trees (mostly conifers) have died in the state, bringing a commitment from both the USDA Forest Service and CALFIRE to make forest health their top priority.
The USDA Forest Service announced today over 147 million trees have died across 9.7 million acres of federal, state, local and private lands in California since the drought began in 2010. Since 2016, federal, state, and local partners have felled 1.5 million dead trees, primarily those posing the highest hazards to life and property.

Travel issues remain around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/10/2019 - 5:30pmLAKE TAHOE, CA/NV - After Caltrans attempted to open I80 this afternoon, it closed again for westbound traffic after a weather cell moved in, causing visibility issues. It is starting to move again but all tractor-trailer combinations are not allowed on I80 due to visibility at this hour.
From Kingvale to Truckee, chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires.
From Meyers to South Lake Tahoe westbound traffic is backing up along Highway 50 towards the Y as cars are attempting to head west over Echo Summit.

There will be a break in the snow this morning with activity forecast to start again at 1:00 p.m.
Know Before You Go - Avalanche presentation for South Tahoe High students

South Tahoe High School students and staff are invited to a presentation on avalanches on February 27 at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the school's Angora and Cascade rooms in the student union.
Popular avalanche educator Richard Bothwell will be the presenter for the event which is sponsored by the Nickolay Dodov Foundation Avalanche Education and Backcountry Safety program. This is the fourth year the foundation has made the presentation to South Tahoe High students.
