Washoe County Sheriff Balaam expressed his deep appreciation to all the deputies and investigators from multiple agencies who have tenaciously worked for the safety of the community during the past 12 hours. He was arrested in the Memorial Point area just north of Sand Harbor near Incline Village. Details of the arrest are coming.

Man charged with battery after allegedly hitting Douglas County deputy vehicle
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/27/2019 - 10:11pmMINDEN, Nev. - An alleged theft investigation at a WalMart in Douglas County led to the arrest of 23-year-old Gardnerville resident Steven Williams with the assistance of the South Lake Tahoe K-9 unit.
The incident started on Friday morning when deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the Walmart on Grant Avenue for an alleged theft investigation. They learned the suspect was driving a white sport utility vehicle.

On Thursday, November 15, 2018, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Board of Directors unanimously approved the final joint environmental document for the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project, also known as the "Loop Road."
Last week, the board of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) unanimously approved the same document, the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS/EIS).

Man allegedly steals beer, attempts to drive away with clerk on car's hood
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/13/2018 - 4:44pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 21-year-old Sacramento man is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime and DUI after allegedly stealing beer from the 7-11 store on Pioneer Trail.
On March 11, Craig Joseph Cumbra is suspected of entering the store and leaving with beer he hadn't paid for. The store clerk tried to stop Cumbra from driving away by standing in front of his vehicle. The suspect drove away with the clerk on the hood. The clerk jumped off as the car left the parking lot.
Man dies after neighbor accidentally drives over him in South Lake Tahoe

At 5:14 a.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was called out to the 1800 block of 13th Street on March 13, 2018 after a man was found on the ground of a neighbor's driveway. According to SLTPD Lt. Shannon Laney, a man was backing out of his driveway to go to 7-11 for his morning newspaper and drove over what he thought was a snow berm. When he returned from the store he found his neighbor on ground and police were called.
Two Douglas County businesses cited for selling liquor to minors

The following 25 businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check and did not sell alcohol to a minor.

Elves strike again in South Lake Tahoe: Bags of gifts hanging from trees
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/17/2017 - 6:04pmOvernight, some elves went through South Lake Tahoe, hanging bags of mittens, scarves and hats from trees near bus stops on Highway 50. The anonymous good Samaritans want those who need to keep warm to grab a bag and keep the contents.
A card accompanying one of the bags by 7-11 said "I am not lost. Please take me if needed and keep me warm. From Your Tahoe Family."
South Lake Tahoe Police investigating shots fired near Stateline

Witnesses reported that two Hispanic males in their 20’s with short dark colored hair were the occupants in the vehicle.
The gun used in the event appear to be a semi-automatic handgun.

Five businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors in Douglas County

On November 2, Douglas County Sheriff's Office visited 28 businesses with liquor licenses to determine if they were being compliant with state law and not selling to minors.
Wal-Mart North County, Maverick, World Market, Grocery Outlet and Lucky Discount Liquor all received citations for furnishing alcohol to people under the age of 21. The employees who sold the alcohol was also cited.
The following businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check.

Woman hit by car while crossing Hwy 89 in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/05/2016 - 8:01pm12:00 p.m. update Sept. 6: A 27-year-old woman from San Francisco was hit by a car Monday as she attempted to run across Highway 89 in South Lake Tahoe. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Chatsworth, Calif., was driving northbound and did not see the woman as she ran across the five lanes from the 7-11 store to Sonney's BBQ Shack just before 6:00 p.m.
Neither identities have been released. The driver stopped immediately and was cooperative with investigators. Alcohol or other driver/pedestrian impairment is not a factor in the crash.
William Hill opens new sportsbook inside MontBleu Resort

MontBleu became the latest location to offer a sportsbook operated by the international company which is based in England. There are 104 other locations in Nevada including the operations at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe.
Loop Road project the topic at South Lake Tahoe Chamber

Woman arrested on suspicion of auto theft in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/29/2015 - 7:28pmA 24-year-old woman was arrested in South Lake Tahoe on suspicion of stealing a car on October 24 in Grizzly Flats, Calif. and driving it to the lake.
South Lake Tahoe Police Officers found Hannah Marie Taylor sitting in the driver's seat of a Silver 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio convertible on October 26 in the parking lot of the 7-11 store located at 3923 Pioneer Trail.
According to SLTPD, Taylor was known to the owner of the car.
Her bail was set at $25,000 and she is no longer in the El Dorado County Jail.
How the City of South Lake Tahoe plans to spend $73 million
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/02/2015 - 9:43pmCity Manager Nancy Kerry and Mark Carlson, the City's Administrative Services Director presented the 2015-16 Fiscal year budget to the South Lake Tahoe City Council during a workshop Tuesday.
"There is a lot we can be proud of," Kerry said.
The budget process has been ongoing since May, involving staff in making the decision on where to cut back, and where to spend.

She lived at what was known as the Cookbook apartments, frequented the 7-11 store on Emerald Bay Road, took the bus to work and, on the last night she was seen alive, visited the Bitter Creek Saloon near the corner of Sandy Way and Takela Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

This year, Hall of Famer Steve Young and former NFL coach Herman "Herm" Edwards joined the local community group for an hour of honest observations and questions and answers.
"It's fun to be with you," Young told the intimate group of Rotarians and their guests. "I feel comfortable here at home in 49er country. If I ever got into trouble I know you guys could hide me."
Bijou Branch of El Dorado Savings closing doors Friday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/28/2015 - 10:52pmOn Friday, May 28 at 6 p.m., the door at Bijou Branch of El Dorado Savings Bank will close for good. They announced in January that they would close the branch and open a new one on Kingsbury Grade to better serve needs of Nevadans.
The new branch, located at 276 Kingsbury Grade (across the parking lot from 7-11), will open for business on Monday, June 1 at 9 a.m. The employees are all moving to the new location.

That is because she came forward to claim her $708,769 Powerball prize. Emmons matched the numbers 24-44-31-11 and 40 on a $20 Quick Pick® ticket, missing only the Powerball number 27 for the March 11th drawing.
As South Tahoe Now carried the story on March 12, that lucky ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 3923 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe.

A ticket sold at the 7-11 store on Pioneer Trail matched five of five numbers, except for the POWERBALL jackpot, winning $708,769 in Wednesday night's lottery drawing.
The numbers are They are: 11, 24, 31, 40, 44 and Power Number 27.
The winner hadn't contacted the store as of 11:45 a.m. Thursday according to manager Rhonda St. Onge. Her store will receive money from the Lottery as well, but St. Onge didn't know how much yet.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 9:49pmA domestic argument in South Lake Tahoe Monday night lead to a woman getting into her car, driving over large boulders, through a building and coming to rest against a tree.
South Lake Tahoe Police, Fire, Paramedics and El Dorado County Sheriffs responded to a 911 call reporting that a car went through the local Jack in the Box. When responders arrived they found a car partially inside a building on the corner of Sussex and Brockway Avenues, across the street from the restaurant.
Lake Tahoe Home Sales: Is it a Buyer's Market or a Seller's Market?

In their August sales report released this week, CAR reports that home sales fell off slightly for the month but are maintaining a strong pace with 5 straight months of year over year sales gains. They also reported that inventory of homes for sale continues to be an issue with inventory at a 6 year low. You will notice similar trends in Lake Tahoe as I explain in more detail below.
