SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After three years of a major highway project through South Lake Tahoe from the Y to Trout Creek, a 2021 planned project will further address needs in South Lake Tahoe from Emerald Bay Road at the Y to Viking Road, the entrance to South Tahoe High School.

STATELINE, Nev. - Local Resident, George Waite is producing a special event for the community on Friday, August 23 at 4:00 p.m. at Kahle Community Park. It will be an evening of local bands with all gate proceeds going to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

Bring chairs, blankets and coolers. No bottles and no dogs will be allowed.

There will be Tacos by Sombreros Catering for sale and a bounce house for kids.

The cost at the door is a $5 donation with kids ages 12 and under free.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Elevating Humanity is the theme of the 4th annual TEDx South Lake Tahoe at the Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theatre on Saturday, October 19, 2019.

The goal of organizers this year is to uplift individuals and spark positivity to make the world a better place. All of the speakers presenting during the evening will use this theme as they inspire attendees.

So far, three speakers have been revealed and over the next few weeks, the other seven will be introduced on the TEDx website, http://tedxsouthlaketahoe.com.

El Dorado County, Calif. - Currently, homeowners in fire-prone areas of California and El Dorado County are starting to see skyrocketing insurance premiums, canceled policies canceled and notices of non-renewal within weeks of a policy's expiration.

Due to the alarming rates at which this is happening, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors reached out to the California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to explain the dire situation in the county.

Krista Kline Carson passed away peacefully on July 9, 2019 surrounded by family and friends after a 3½ year battle with cancer. Always positive, always upbeat she would constantly describe her life as AWSOME! She was a positive force for everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Jesse Kalin (Philip) Carson, daughter Trella Ruth Carson, parents Don and Gwen Kline, brother and sister-in-law Scott and Jen Kline, step-daughter Madison Merz, step-son Travis Steidle and uncles, cousins and other relatives too numerous to mention.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A recent Tahoe Chamber Connect for a Cause raised funds for SOS Outreach, a youth development non-profit that uses year-round, outdoor sports to engage underserved students in long-term mentor based relationships.

They gathered with community members at Revive Coffee & Wine and enjoyed appetizers, local beer and wine, raffle prizes, and live music from Bond Collins while raising $1,050 for SOS Outreach.

That is being answered with well over 100 fire cameras now in place across the west, all because of foresight of Dr. Graham Kent, the Director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fire at Sierra House Elementary School on November 11, 2018, caused extensive damage and forced students to spend the school year at other campuses in South Lake Tahoe - 4th and 5th graders at South Tahoe Middle School and K-3 at the old Al Tahoe campus. With the beginning of school just around the corner, crews have been beefed up and are working overtime to try and get the doors open for all students on August 26.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Memo of Understanding (MOU) to show the cooperative and constructive intent to build affordable housing between the City of South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Transportation District, Pacific Development Group and United Housing Corporation was to be voted on during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are two new groups of buses heading to South Lake Tahoe, one bringing 35-foot overhead electrically-charged buses and the other bringing 16-passenger battery-charged buses.

The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has received a grant for $2.1 million grant to help bring new electric buses to South Lake Tahoe. During their meeting Friday in Incline Village, the Board approved the purchase of three battery-electric buses, two pedestal chargers and two overhead chargers, all to be done through grant funds.

A geyser of water and natural gas on Senaca Drive in Meyers on August 6 brought out a full response from South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD), Southwest Gas (SWG), Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO).

STPUD responded to the call of a water leak and upon arrival found water gushing from a broken water main. They also smelled gas so called SWG and 911. LVFPD and EDSO secured the area and helped evacuate residents and divert water to minimize property damage.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is just over a week left to answer a few questions on the Tahoe Prosperity Center's housing survey. They have teamed up with the South Lake Tahoe Endowment and numerous government jurisdictions, agencies and partners to better understand and plan for resident and employee housing needs now and in the future to support our community and economy.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be another fire in California, but when and where cannot be predicted and is unknown - but what is known is there will be another community that is devastated by wildland fire.

Residents around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra know this all too well and have been talking about concerns of wildfire threats in and around the Tahoe Basin. Those conversations have turned into plans and the City of South Lake Tahoe has just released an interactive website to help both residents and visitors map out an evacuation plan based on their neighborhood.

Carol Chaplin, the executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority since 2008, has been named the new chairperson of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The nine-member board oversees both the Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - It's summertime, a beautiful time of year that brings with it perfect beach weather, something evident by the hundreds of cars parked along the roads around Lake Tahoe on a daily basis.

Two of those areas that bring the most vehicles full of beachgoers are Zephyr Cove and Round Hill Pines, two very popular Lake Tahoe spots. Drivers along the highway don't always slow down to speeds slower than the posted 45 mph, keeping it a dangerous stretch on busy beach days with car doors opening and people walking on the road with their coolers and beach gear.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As a follow-up to their "Prepare to Evacuate" community meeting, the Tahoe Neighborhoods Group is joining forces to help the Tahoe Resource Conservation District (TRCD) bring a “Neighborhood Leader Orientation" meeting to South Lake Tahoe.

On August 21 at the El Dorado County Library in South Lake Tahoe from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., TRCD will focus on what it means to be a “Fire Adapted Community” and how neighborhood leaders can organize and hold neighborhood events to ensure that homes and communities are prepared and fire safe if/when a fire occurs.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - With a change of leadership at George Whittel High School and Zephyr Cove Elementary many rumors have been circulating around the district. Douglas County School District Superintendent Teri White has supplied a list of facts to give kids and parents an update on their schools.

Is the District closing ZCES or GWHS?
No. The District has no plans to close either school at this time.

Who is the principal of our school?

A record 246 people participated in the 36th Tahoe Tennis Classic at Zephyr Cove Park this past weekend. The four-day annual event brought people from throughout the United States to our area for competitive and fun tennis.

The tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation. The nonprofit, all-volunteer organization has a contract with Douglas County to operate the six courts. Responsibilities include resurfacing the courts, managing play, and providing instruction for all ages and abilities.
