Seasonal holidays like Halloween will be different this fall to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Finding safe ways to celebrate can create magical memories, and lower the risk of exposure to yourself, your family, and your community. The decisions we make on this one day can have a ripple effect beyond our own families. Halloween during the COVID-19 pandemic is a chance for you and your children to get creative, and maybe even invent some new traditions for your family. It's also a great opportunity to model flexibility and a positive spirit.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - EarthWise Pet Lake Tahoe will be holding its inaugural Howl-O-Ween Party on Saturday, October 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It's a party for the pets with a photo booth, pet costume party (at 2:30 p.m.), raffle baskets, along with free samples of products and sales at the store.

The event will take place on the lawn outside EarthWise at The Crossing at Tahoe Valley, 2060 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Masks are required on humans and social distancing is recommended.

October isn’t all about ghouls and witches. This spooky-themed month is also known as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Wednesday, October 30, Live Violence Free is South Lake Brewing Co. to bring a fun-filled evening to the community while also bringing awareness to domestic violence and how to prevent it.

From 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., join them for a family-friendly event filled with arts and crafts for the kids, a costume contest and trivia for the family, an information booth to spread awareness on domestic violence, and fun prizes for all ages!

St.Theresa Catholic Church of South Lake Tahoe is holding their annual Parish Festival on Saturday, June 22 from noon to 9:00 p.m.in the church's parking lot. It has a western theme so cowboy hats and boots are encouraged.

The event will feature fun and games, music and entertainment. Enjoy delicious Mexican, Filipino and American food, drinks and desserts. There is also a beer and wine garden.

Don't forget the dog costume contest at 5:00 p.m.!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On March 23, 2019, participants will take to the slopes to raise funds for patients in the South Lake Tahoe area who are fighting cancer in the inaugural Pink Heavenly.

The Barton Foundation is joining Heavenly Mountain Resort in putting on the event with the hopes of giving cancer the boot by raising $250,000.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - October 7-13, 2018 is National Fire Prevention Week, and the two local fire stations will be celebrating with each having an open house along with a Firefighter Halloween Costume Contest for K-3 graders on Saturday, October 13.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., take a tour of the stations, learn how to escape a fire in your home, learn about the water-safety vest loaner program and get information and giveaways.

Kids who come in a public safety/firefighter costume will be entered to win a future breakfast with the crew!

Tahoe Paradise Park is hosting "Dog Day in the Park" for the Lake Tahoe Humane Society on Sunday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m.

To celebrate the park being dog friendly, and to help out the Humane Society, there will be activities for both dogs and their humans. BBQ, kid's activities, doggie costume contest and a best trick contest (for the dogs) are also part of the day's events.

Word Wave, a festival for readers, writers, and lovers of story has returned to South Lake Tahoe. The three day long Word Wave will feature readings, workshops, panels, music, and plays from October 21-23, 2016 at Tallac Historic Site.

Every culture has used, and continues to use, story to entertain, educate, preserve history and tradition, and connect and WordWave will celebrate those words and the story in all its forms for the second year on the South Shore.

After the kids have finished up their trick-or-treating, the South Lake Tahoe nightlife gives adults a lot of opportunity for some ghoulish fun.

Dust off your bowler hat, lace up your high-heeled boots and join us for the first ever Tall Timber Ball. On Oct. 9 from 6-10 p.m. you can style it steampunk or go grunge and join us under the timber beams of Valhalla’s Grand Hall while the DJ spins from the massive stone fireplace. Cool prizes will go to the most interesting looks of the night. This event kicks off the inaugural Tahoe WordWave festival and will benefit art and culture in South Lake Tahoe.

Always one of the "go to" events of the holidays, the Tahoe Regional Youth Professionals (TRYP) have announced the date of their 3rd Annual Winter White Party.

The party this year returns to the Riva Grill on November 22.

Join the Crazy Club authors Christie Higman Rassuchine and Robyn Lindner,  two gals who grew up in Tahoe and wrote books based on their own Crazy Club in elementary school, for a morning of fun at the library on August 2nd at 10:30 p.m.

They will read a portion of their newest book, Larry’s Lucky Charm. Many of The Crazy Club members are looking forward to showing off their talent, but will stage fright get the best of Larry Lightyear?

‘Tis the season to Empower Tahoe: the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ (www.tahoetryp.org) Annual Winter White FUNdraiser returns on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. The themed holiday party supports TRYP’s professional development programs like workshops and scholarships, while also raising funds for the Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe. The theme is the color white so all attendees are encouraged to wear white!

The 2nd Annual Dog Carnival returns to South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, August 17 from 10 am to 4 pm. The non-profit Dawgs on the Run puts on the event to promote the fun and benefits of having dogs in our lives. This full day of fun is for dogs and their humans to enjoy and includes games, contests, raffles, food, prizes and informative demonstrations. All leashed dogs are invited!

Catch Rock n’ Roll legend Joan Jett live in concert with her band, The Blackhearts Saturday, Nov. 17 at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at South Shore Lake Tahoe. Joan Jett has an astonishing eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles over her career, including the classics, “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” “Bad Reputation,” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” Doors open at 8 p.m. Show starts at 9 p.m.

Step into a blue Halloween at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe on Halloween night. The League to Save Lake Tahoe is teaming up with local progressive rockers Groovebox to stage a Halloween Party all about keeping it blue. A costume contest will award prizes for best overall costume and most creative blue costume.

Other attractions include raffles and a special Halloween photo booth. A portion of proceeds will help support the League to Save Lake Tahoe. Show starts at 8 p.m., $10 cover and 18+, American Legion, 2748 Young Street, South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals inaugural TRYP-Stock will raise funds for Tahoe’s Animal Humane Society, Saturday, August 18 from 1 - 5 p.m. at El Dorado Beach - the new Lakeview Commons. The 60s-themed "Peace, Love & Puppies" party provides locals, visitors and kids of all ages, an afternoon filled with music on the beach, costumes, games, contests, vendors, food and beverages.

Teams of super heroes, penguins, pirates and other characters jumped into Lake Tahoe last winter, and on March 17, they’ll do it again. You’re invited to join them as Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada co-host Polar Plunge® 2012 at Zephyr Cove, South Lake Tahoe. The event is open to all and will include entertainment, a costume contest, and prizes, as well as Special Olympics athletes, coaches, and volunteers who will share their experiences with the organization’s inspiring programs.

The 33rd annual Freaker’s Ball, Tahoe’s longest running Halloween party gets its groove going Saturday, Oct. 29, at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa with a $10,000 costume contest purse and an estimated 2,500 party-goers. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
