Lake Tahoe Historical Society celebrates 50 years with Chautauqua Gala

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society turns 50 this year, and to help celebrate this occasion they are holding a gala presentation of Chautauqua at Lake Tahoe 2018 on Saturday, August 18 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Duane L. Bliss (DL BLiss), George Whittell, Jr. and Lillian Virgin Finnegan will come back to life through their character portrayals by the esteemed cast of Doug Mishler, Kim Harris and Steve Hale.

Doors will open at the LTCC Duke Theatre at 5:30 p.m., with appetizers, silent auction and raffle with unique gifts, libations, music and a costume contest for the best costume worn by attendees. Come as a member of a wagon train, Pony Express, adventurer or discoverer, Lake Tahoe historical figure, dignitaries who helped form communities around the lake.....the (blue) sky is the limit!

The show begins at 7:00 p.m.

Cost for the evening is $50 for Lake Tahoe Historical Society members, $55 for non members, and special discounts of $480 for a group of ten.

Special commemorative glasses will be available for purchase.

To purchase tickets, stop by the museum during their summer hours of 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. starting June 1, Thursday-Saturday. Or, call 530.541.5458. The museum is located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

This is a very popular event so early purchase is suggested. If any tickets happen to be available at the door, they will all be $55 each.

Chautauqua was an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. Now you can see one in 2018 in South Lake Tahoe!
