Former executive director of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society moved out of South Lake Tahoe over the weekend, leaving many in the community questioning the timing after she was fired on March 31 amidst accusations of misappropriation of agency funds.

Niki Congero moved out of her rental home because she was given a 60-day notice to vacate May 4. The owner of the home wanted to use it for his purposes, according to Realty World, the property management company.

El Dorado County has become the state of California's 39th Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ). This is a new designation for South Lake Tahoe and Placerville that will combine recycling with economic development to fuel new businesses, expand existing ones, create jobs and divert waste from landfills.

“With this designation, our County has another arrow in our economic development quiver to attract new business and help existing businesses expand,” said Tiffany Schmid in the County’s Economic Development Division. “And it helps make El Dorado County a greener place to do business.”

Two new laws start on Nevada roadways July 1. The "Move Over" Law geared towards protecting Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) workers takes effect as does the Left Lane Law.

Left Lane Law now state that drivers in the fast lane who are holding back traffic behind them can be cited. Violations for being the slow driver in the fast lane will now be a misdemeanor with a first-time $50 fine. The fine would be $100 for a second offense within seven years. Fine number three would be $250.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Office of Correctional Safety Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested 25-year-old Alexander Childs in Sacramento Tuesday.

Childs was a parolee-at-large as his parole had been suspended for absconding and a warrant was issued for his arrest on May 19, 2017. El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies and other South Lake Tahoe area law enforcement had been looking for Childs after he said he was in the Meyers area on Thursday.

"It was so frustrating and only so much we could do," recalled Kit Bailey of the U.S. Forest Service during Saturday's Angora Fire First Responder Remembrance Ceremony. "Its miraculous nobody got hurt."

On the 10th anniversary of the devastating fire that destroyed 254 homes as it burned quickly through 3,100 acres in the Meyers area of the South Shore, fire responders gathered at the Lake Valley Fire Department to honor those who served that day, and to honor the resilient community that supported them.

Events continue on the South Shore to mark the 10th anniversary of the Angora Fire.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a phone call Thursday, alerting them of a convicted sex offender in Meyers who had cut off his ankle monitoring device.

Deputies searched for 25-year-old Alexander Paul Childs in the area but were not successful. Deputies have been on the lookout for him and EDSO has notified surrounding law enforcement agencies as well.

The anonymous caller told EDSO that Childs had called her and said he'd been without his ankle device for about a month and that he wanted to leave Meyers and head to Sacramento.

Reno area firefighters are at the scene of a brush fire along the Hunter Creek Trail in the west part of the City, a popular hiking spot. As of 3:30 p.m. the fire had consumed almost 200 acres according to Truckee Meadows Fire Department.

Crews from Reno Fire Department, Truckee Meadows Fire Department and the Nevada Division of Forestry are all at the scene along with helicopter and airplane help from the air.

Placerville murder suspect Bernardo Castillo was taken into custody early Friday morning in El Centro, Calif.

Castillo, 24, is accused of killing 49-year-old Silvia Castillo of Placerville and stabbing a four-year-old multiple times on Tuesday, June 13. An arrest warrant was issued immediately, and photos of the suspect and his car were distributed.

The Pony Express Re-Ride 2017 is almost in the history books. The mochila (mailbag) was transferred to a rider at the Nevada/California state line at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night. That rider then went down Pioneer Trail to Echo Summit.

A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to carjack a local woman's BMW.

The search continues for Dan Pham, the Bay Area man who went missing on Thursday, June 8 after embarking on a kayak trip from Lester Beach towards Emerald Bay. The search was suspended for two days due to bad weather but boats were back on the lake Monday to search for Pham.

A 27-year-old Douglas County man, a suspect in a California homicide investigation, was arrested Thursday night during a joint agency operation that happened at an Airport Road apartment complex, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The arrest happened at around 6:40 p.m. and involved the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and California law enforcement agencies.

At 8:45 p.m. Furlong released the following statement:

A driver at the corner of Al Tahoe Blvd and Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe ran into the guy-wire for a power pole, cutting power to over 2,000 Liberty Utilities customers Tuesday afternoon.

The driver was not injured.

The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Police Departments responded to the one vehicle crash after getting the call at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday June 6.

Power was knocked out in South Lake Tahoe at 12:46 p.m. but was restored by 2:45 p.m. A new power pole was placed on Pioneer Trail by Liberty Utilities crews.

On US50 approximately five miles east of Dayton, a Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) Trooper was involved in a fatal crash at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, June 5. One person was confirmed deceased on scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper was transported via CareFlight to Renown with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The deceased victim of the crash is an adult male, according to a witness on-scene who performed CPR on him before paramedics arrived. His name has not been released. Family is being notified.

With an increase of $4.5 million to CalPers in 2018, changes to some social service programs, the impact of prison realignment, a "challenging" budget for El Dorado County is now available for public review. It is going to the Board of Supervisors (BOS) as well and they will have future meetings on the subject.

A preliminary step in what will be a multi-year Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) process took place at Zephyr Cove Elementary School Wednesday evening. About double the expected maximum of 120 people crowded the school's multi-purpose room to view and listen to the agency's plans for the stretch of Highway 50 from Stateline to Spooner Summit in Lake Tahoe which is officially called the US50 Lake Tahoe Corridor Safety Improvement.

A three-year-old female bear was hit by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on SR-28 in the Memorial Point area south of Sand Harbor near Incline Village.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) received a call at 12:40 a.m. by a passing motorist on May 31 of an injured bear lying in the roadway. When deputies responded they found the badly injured bear who was breathing but unable to move.

Users of Facebook this weekend might have caught a photo of a South Lake Tahoe Police car parked in the yellow loading zone at Raley's. The person who posted the photo attached the comment, "SLT police are above the law. (And no, there was no emergency, I saw her shopping in the ice cream isle [sic])."

Yes, the officer was getting ice cream, but the real story needs to be told.
