Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/19/2018 - 10:10amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The week is starting out beautiful: blue skies, great powder and mile temperatures, but it won't last long.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, light valley rain and Sierra snow and rain will develop Tuesday and Tuesday night, with some travel impacts possible for Sierra and northeast California passes. Round two to start dropping snow Wednesday night in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/27/2018 - 2:17pmLake Tahoe is enjoying a sunny and clear day Tuesday as the next storm starts to brew in the northwest. Up to 20 inches of snow fell at Lake Tahoe area ski resorts, but with what is expected latter in the week that will be nothing.
Very heavy snowfall accumulations are forecast for the foothills and mountains of Northern California, the heaviest snow expected to begin Wednesday night with major travel delays possible by Thursday. This system will be the strongest storm this winter, with snow to be measured in feet, not inches.
Could that be snow in the Lake Tahoe forecast?
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/05/2018 - 6:26pmWith the Sierra snowpack at three percent of normal at Echo Summit, and 84 percent of normal at top of Mt. Rose, snow is needed not only on the slopes, but at upper elevations to keep reservoirs full of water for summer.
The weather pattern remains unsettled into the weekend in Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe. A warm and relatively weak system Friday evening into Saturday will bring
additional rain and high elevation snow to the region. A brief break is expected Sunday before a stronger and wetter system is forecast to impact the region Monday and Tuesday.
