The lakeside summer concert series in South Lake Tahoe, Live and Lakeview, celebrates their 50th show on Thursday, August 18 with two bands starting at 4:30 p.m.
This free concert is presented by On Course Events and the City of South Lake Tahoe.
Funk band Swamp Zen gets the party started from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and they'll be followed by Gypsy Rock band Diego's Umbrella who take the stage from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Celebrated as San Francisco's Ambassadors of Gypsy Rock, Diego's Umbrella areworld-renowned entertainers have created an irresistible cocktail that is entirely their own. On a planet bombarded with every possible kind of entertainment, their show is called a singular, ecstatic experience; one concert is all it takes to turn you into a believer. The group's uncanny gift for pleasing crowds, from standard clubs to huge festivals such as Bottle Rock Napa, High Sierra and Outside Lands, has earned them a breathless and ever-expanding following across the United States and Europe, and that connection with other cultures continues to inform their aesthetic. In their music you will hear klezmer, flamenco and punk rock all blended to pop perfection.
The opening act, Swamp Zen, combines the funk of James Brown, the song writing of Van Morrison, and the winding improvisation of the Grateful Dead to create their own brand of original dance music. They honor the jam band tradition by never playing a song the same way twice, but are consistent in their superb musicianship and in delivering a high-energy show that always brings people to the dance floor. Their music is never boring as it moves seamlessly between styles including funk, jazz, Latin, country, techno, reggae, and more. Most importantly they have a blast on stage, and this contagious attitude is spread throughout the audience to make for a shared musical experience unlike any other.Swamp Zen has shared the stage with such national touring acts as; G-Love & Special Sauce,Hot Buttered Rum,The Charlie Hunter Trio,Orgone,The Mother Hips,Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers,March Forth,Tea Leaf Green, Zach Deputy and more.
During the concert there will be food and drink options available for purchase, a beer garden and vendors.
The last show of the year will be on Thursday, August 25. Local favorite Lavish Green, a band who's sound is a blend of ska, reggae and rock will play from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. The opening act for the event will be the Wesley Orsolic Band, who bring their blues and rock to the stage from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 pm.
