SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The public is invited to participate in another 56-Acre Master Plan virtual session on January 20, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Planning is underway to create a signature park and area in the heart of South Lake Tahoe that will fill a large wish list of projects.
There are many ways the community can participate including taking the self-guided tour onsite, the online survey, and joining the public online meeting.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office warns of telephone scam
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/30/2020 - 7:18pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has received two reports in the past 24 hours from citizens who were contacted by telephone from someone claiming to be a DCSO deputy or sergeant. The caller uses the name and rank of an actual DCSO employee. One of the citizens said her caller ID showed the call was coming from a DCSO business line.
According to their reports, the person claiming to be a DCSO employee tells the citizen they owe money for a fine or warrant and tells the citizen to transfer money the caller via an online app or they will be arrested.

These kits are a helpful resource for parent nd law enforcement to identify a child in case of an emergency.
The school district office will be distributing the kits where were made possible by a generous donation from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Advisory Council.

El Dorado County to vote on changes to VHR ordinance including 1,050 cap of Lake Tahoe permits

The 2:00 p.m. time certain public hearing will contain consideration of a cap of 1,050 total permits issued in the unincorporated portion of the Tahoe Basin.
A waiting list would be created for those wanting a VHR permit after the 1,050 number is met. The waiting list request shall become void upon change in ownership.

South Tahoe Public Utility District was formed on September 28, 1950 and will mark their 70th anniversary with a virtual celebration Wednesday.
They will be recounting tales tales of how the community transitioned from pumping sewage into the lake to becoming the first wastewater treatment plant in the world to treat to tertiary levels. Over the years the District has acquired and upgraded small water systems to provide the delicious Tahoe Tap and fire flow capacity that South Lake Tahoe enjoys today.

The agenda is a fairly short one with the last two regular council meetings lasting about eight hours each.
There will be a closed session meeting at 8:30 a.m.
Council will consider postponing or canceling all City permitted special events until November 17, 2020 or until public health officials deem it is safe to gather in larger groups. All permitted special events have been canceled since May 12, 2020, due to the pandemic.

Most of the agenda focus is on a budget workshop for fiscal year 2020-21 (FY 20-21) which includes a $2.5 million decrease from last year. A presentation will be made on the $93.7 million total budget of which about $40.5 million is the general fund.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. Calif. - Traffic leaving South lake Tahoe through Meyers on Sundays and holidays through the winter can be a nightmare. Map apps lead visitors onto roads that are steeper and not plowed as much as US50, thus creating hazards and clogged roads. Tow trucks are backlogged hours to assist getting the stuck vehicles off Apache, Mandan, North Upper Truckee and Sawmill Roads.
Due to these jammed roads, residents in the area cannot to get to work or the grocery store, and a Traffic Advisory Committee was formed to seek solutions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Al Tahoe neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe has begun the process of becoming a nationally recognized and certified Firewise USA® community with the support of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and under the guidance of the National Fire Protection Association.
There is only one other neighborhood, Golden Bear (Lower Montgomery Estates), that is under the Firewise USA® program in the Lake Tahoe Basin though several areas outside the basin in El Dorado and Placer counties are participating.

Anyone who happened to be traveling on Highway 395 between Ridgeview and Holbrook Junction on July 6 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. is being asked to help.

The board will receive an update on the status of COVID cases in El Dorado County and provide direction to staff regarding enforcement against businesses and individuals who fail to comply with state and local health requirements.
Tuesday: Numbers Fire south of Gardnerville now at 18,000 acres and 0% containment

The recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pineview areas have been lifted. Only residents are allowed to these areas. Please drive safely, watch for emergency vehicles, and be ready for possible future instructions in an ever-changing situation.
Multiple local, state, and federal agencies continue to work on containing the fire using dozers, hand crews, and aircraft.
Embarc Tahoe dispensary now open in South Lake Tahoe

Embarc Tahoe has opened its doors and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday with Mayor Jason Collin, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, members of the Embarc Tahoe team and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Christy Wilson moved into what was once Tahoe Teriyaki and has since been several different businesses.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a public presentation from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 on the Bijou Park Creek Watershed Restoration Project.
The project is three phases, the first beginning with the removal of the Knight's Inn and addressing flooding issues in that area. The objectives of the complete project are to improve stormwater quality, decrease flooding, restore the Bijou Park Creek SEZ (stream environmental zone), and to install a series of stormwater quality and flood control improvements.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service releases 4,600 more Lahontan cuthroat into Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/28/2020 - 9:42amFollowing a successful three-day operation in October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service this week released more than 4,600 Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe, helping to restore the iconic species to its native waters.
Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest inland cutthroat trout in the world and the only trout native to Lake Tahoe.
The 4,645 fish from the Pilot Peak strain, originated at the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex in Gardnerville and were released into the Nevada side of the lake this week.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Calif. - Since Superintendent Terri White announced her retirement at the end of February, the Douglas County School Board has been searching for her replacement.
On Monday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m., the board will hold a special meeting to interview three candidates via ZOOM and the public is invited to watch and participate. According to their agenda, a new superintendent could be chosen and announced by the end of the meeting.

For the first time, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has wrapped a car with blue puzzle pieces as an inviting way for children and adults with autism to meet police officers in a casual setting.
South Lake Tahoe library offering story time and other digital services while closed

Library cards that are due to expire have been extended. All books due during their closed times will be accepted after reopening with no late fees. Their drop box is closed so no books can be dropped off.
All due dates have been extended to May 29, 2020.

Vail Resorts announced Saturday that they are suspending the operations of all of their North American mountain resorts, retail stores and corporate offices beginning tomorrow, March 15, 2020, for at least one week (through March 22) to assess the rest of the season.
This includes Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Resort and Northstar in the Lake Tahoe area.

Warm Room plans to open in South Lake Tahoe on Monday
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/14/2019 - 9:02pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Warm Room is set to open for the winter on Monday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m. The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) announced today they have secured 989 Third Street for their location this season and will open pending completion of a final City inspection.
During the winter, TCH provides overnight refuge from the elements at the Warm Room. The Warm Room provides a safe and warm environment for adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness.

El Dorado County Registrar of Voters Bill O’Neill indicating they are a "No Party Preference" may have to re-register.
“We are confident our mailing list of NPP voters is accurate, however, some voters may have had their party preference unknowingly changed as a result of automatic voter registration through the California Department of Motor Vehicles,” O’Neill said.

The popular mode of transportation is used by millions worldwide and provides over 100,000 annual rides in South Lake Tahoe.
But the illegal use by minors and a flaw in the Lime app process has drawn concern from local law enforcement and residents.
