Ribbon cutting ceremony at Lakeview Commons at 2 pm to celebrate the completion of the US Highway 50 Trout Creek Bridge to Ski Run Blvd Project.
The project was a decade in the planning and took 3 building seasons to complete. The project included new storm drains to treat stormwater runoff to protect the lake, ADA compliant sidewalks with lighting and landscaping and Class II bike lanes to give bikers a safer ride.
Lakeview Commons is at the corner of US Highway 50 and Lakeview Avenue.
Gold Star Peak dedication ceremony to be held Sept. 6 in South Lake Tahoe

With the assistance of the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and a determined committee, an unnamed peak on the North Shore of the Lake Tahoe Basin has been renamed “Gold Star Peak” in honor of soldiers from the area that paid the ultimate price in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the War on Terrorism. A ceremony to dedicate Gold Star Peak will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe.

Abandoned pressure cooker closes Highway 50 for two hours

The Live at Lakeview Summer Music Series will return to Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe every Thursday this summer, June 20 through August 29 (excluding July 4).
The City of South Lake Tahoe has recognized the Live at Lakeview Summer Music Series as a Signature Summer Event and awarded a contract to On Course Events for the production of this event series at Lakeview Commons for the next two summers through 2014.
TRPA announces 2012 Best in the Basin Award winners

This is the 23rd year for the program that recognizes Lake Tahoe area projects for demonstrating exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with the Lake Tahoe environment. Local professionals in the fields of landscaping, planning, engineering, water quality, and resource management judged each category. A reception for all Best in Basin winners and judges will follow the awards ceremony.

For years, people on the South Shore have gathered to give voice to what they want their community to evolve into. Tuesday night was another opportunity to do more of the same.
But it was also a chance to hear from a diverse group about how some of those ideas are now projects in the ground – like Lakeview Commons and Van Sickle Bi-State Park.

February 15, 2013 (All day) I am sure glad I live here and not down there where there is such a big stink about a dad who took a DOJ helicopter and dropped the homecoming football to the team from the air. Where else can you go anywhere and have Santa dropped of in the Calstar helicopter at the Meyers Christmas Tree lighting or have the high school homecoming game ball delivered by Calstar?
I would gladly pay for that as I know others would also.

RHAA office opens in South Lake Tahoe

Mr. Long and RHAA teamed together on the El Dorado Beach project at Lakeview Commons that opened June 20. Lakeview Commons’ rejuvenated waterfront with terraced seating was designed to enhance the natural beauty of the area and now serves as a great gathering space for water sports, live music or just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The Lake Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will keep the fall feisty with their next mixer at the new Pub inside 968 Park Hotel, Sept. 26 from 7:30 – 10 p.m.
Pizzas, cheese and fruit platters will be bountiful throughout the evening so belly up to the bar for drink specials and sample organic New Belgium Brewery Beers, Organic wine or a cup of Joe.
Non-TRYP members who attend mixers will have a $5-10 cover fee depending on the event, while members are free.
Heavenly, Kirkwood resorts work on Lakeview Commons for Echo Day

Through the project, 179 resort employees, friends and family put the final touches on Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach, including planting trees and shrubs, laying sod, installing park benches, picking up trash, and re-distributing sand to even out the beach.

Live at Lakeview Summer Concert Series at South Lake Tahoe kicks off the Labor Day weekend early on Thursday with some zesty Latin flavor featuring two local Latino bands. Los Barranqueños Del Norte will start off the evening with some Mariachi music followed by the headliner, Tahoe Musical, which will play a cross-pollination of traditional Cumbian (Columbian Salsa) and Del norte styles. If your salsa moves lack in the heat department, organizers will have you covered.
Champion Stand Up Paddleboarder Goes Wild for Lake Tahoe License Plates

Wild is the new theme in advertising for Lake Tahoe license plates, as U.S. National Stand Up Paddleboard Team member Jay Wild of Truckee is featured in television and print ads shot last week at Carnelian Bay.
“Over 96 percent of fees help support projects like the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and access to beaches like this,” says Wild, standing on the beach at Watermans Landing. “I train on the lake every day. Tahoe is a treasure, and I have a Tahoe plate to show my love for this magical place.”

Two incumbents face field of challengers in City Council race

The filing period ended at 5 p.m. Friday. If one of the incumbents had not filed, the filing period would have been extended by five days.

Does it take a vision or does it start with a vision?
South Lake Tahoe, clearly a jewel in its own right, was feeling lackluster. There was no sense of place. No central gathering area. A lack of community, some said. It’s easy to pontificate on making things better – even easier to reflect on the good ole days.
But what wasn’t easy at all, was reaching consensus on what the passion of the people in a particular place would do with a prime piece of public open space and the funding to make it a special place.
