SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites the public to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort this winter, starting on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. Tours will begin each Friday at Tamarack Lodge, at the top of the Heavenly Gondola at 1 p.m. The tours last approximately one-hour and continue through March 27, 2020, weather permitting.
“We are grateful for our collaboration with Heavenly Mountain Resort,” said LTBMU Forest Supervisor, Jeff Marsolais. “By partnering together, we are able to offer free interpretive programs that promote environmental literacy and public land stewardship.”
Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket. No reservations are required. Attendance is on a first-come first-served basis and group size is limited to 12. Participants should meet at the top of the Heavenly Gondola outside of Tamarack Lodge.
These free conservation education programs are offered to educate the public about the mission and role of the Forest Service in ski area management, to improve public understanding of natural resource processes and issues and to promote environmental literacy and stewardship. Programs are led by Forest Service conservation education staff and volunteers, and operate through a cooperative effort between Heavenly Mountain Resort and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
Marsolais remarked, “We also wish to thank our dedicated community volunteers, who generously donate their time to help educate the skiing and riding visitors to the National Forest.”
