SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Former City Manager Nancy Kerry has been hired as the new town manager for Frisco, Colorado, a mountain hamlet that is an international skier destination due to its proximity to four resorts - Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin.

Dear Council Members:

My name is Scott Ramirez, I am a long time resident of South Lake Tahoe. Some of you know me and my family and are familiar with our activities to support our town. We are advocates for our community and volunteer where we can.

El Dorado County has become the state of California's 39th Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ). This is a new designation for South Lake Tahoe and Placerville that will combine recycling with economic development to fuel new businesses, expand existing ones, create jobs and divert waste from landfills.

“With this designation, our County has another arrow in our economic development quiver to attract new business and help existing businesses expand,” said Tiffany Schmid in the County’s Economic Development Division. “And it helps make El Dorado County a greener place to do business.”

The theme for Monday's 19th Annual Lake Tahoe Summit was “Connecting Lake Tahoe’s Environment and Economy through Innovation and Transportation.”

“The Tahoe Prosperity Center is thrilled that Senator Dean Heller of Nevada, and the Lake Tahoe Summit’s host this year, recognizes the importance of Tahoe’s economy as well as the environment and included it in this year’s theme,” stated executive director, Heidi Hill Drum.

When reflecting over the past year it's hard to remember all that happened in one's life, unless you're good at keeping a journal and you have time to re-read it.

As I look back at what happened in South Lake Tahoe over the last 365 days, a lot happened, but what may seem to be a top story to me may not seem as important to a reader.

I reviewed our analytics, the numbers that are kept to show how many people read South Tahoe Now stories at any given point, and drew from those numbers to come up with the "South Lake Tahoe's Top Stories of 2014."

Helen Keller wrote those words many years ago yet they continue to be very relevant today. As I look forward to 2014 I also like to reflect on another one of my favorite quotes, this one from Ghandi, "you must be the change you wish to see in the world."

As a community that is in the midst of change, we can be reminded of these quotes as we move forward and live in a town we're both proud of, and a vibrant part of.

A new marketing campaign “Improve the State of Your Business,” developed by the Northern Nevada Development Authority has received national media attention for its recent launch of marketing materials and a website targeting the relocation of business to Douglas County. The campaign includes material specific to Douglas County and has been successful in bringing new jobs to the local area.

Christina Proctor, public relations professional, and Bev Ducey, a resource development expert with an extensive history in grant procurement, will be advancing the mission of the Tahoe Prosperity Center (TPC) in 2013. The TPC Executive Committee contracted with Proctor and Ducey after Mone´ Haen, former chief executive officer, announced her resignation in December. Proctor will be developing TPC materials, presentations and handling the daily administrative tasks of the organization. Ducey will focus on strengthening the TPC’s financial resources through grant development.

After attending the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum held on October 23rd, 2012 I was inspired to draft a response to the questions about economic revitalization that were asked at the meeting. I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is pleased to welcome Tim Carlson as the new Presidential Appointee to TRPA’s 15-member Governing Board.
Carlson brings with him more than 40 years of government and business development experience to the non-voting seat on the Governing Board. His out-of-the-box business style has resulted in the development of many public/private partnerships and business-to-business joint ventures.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he will propose to extend a package of taxes now set to expire in June 2013 into the next budget to avoid further cuts to education, which he said cannot withstand further reductions.
To maintain a basically flat spending plan for the two-year budget that will begin on July 1, 2013, Sandoval said the modified business tax that was maintained at a higher rate for large businesses in the 2011 legislative session, along with a small increase in the sales tax, must be continued.
