Changes on the South Shore: Motel gone, restaurant, spa and commercial space on way

Last spring the South Lake Tahoe planning commission approved plans for turning the Highland Inn motel into commercial space. Original plans for the space include a spa, restaurant and bar and other businesses.
A sign hanging in the front window of the former motel is advertising space available in the new building along with a photo of the planned rendition.
This is the latest South Lake Tahoe change that has been highlighted on South Tahoe Now over the past several months. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Auto Zone, Bev Mo Coldwater Brewery and Tahoewoods Condos are all scheduled for openings over the new few months. Many new businesses have already opened including Azul Latin Kitchen, Sonney's BBQ Shack, a new home for SUPTahoe and South Shore Bikes, and Tahoe Toys & Treasures.
